Those boys shot a mallard 5 times and the dang thing still went 6 or 8 hundred yards out in the pasture before it ran out of blood I guess. Crashed in the mesquites, you got to love that steel shot! I marked the general area, so Judee and I took off, once she got down wind, it was all over with, bird recovered.

Anyways on our way back to the tank, she started acting crazy and picking up her pace, running back and forth with her tail going nuts.

Then she did this. Quail!!!!!

Well can he do that?

And no I didn't shoot the quail.

She's not a Duck Dog and I am not a Duck Hunter but, I do hunt with a PudelPointer.

A few ducks got killed this weekend.

The calm before the storm.

Just giving you a hard time. Ha. Btw, we did hunt with 2 Labs also this weekend.

That's really cool!

Probably could have recovered the duck.

You and I both know she wouldn't have pointed those qail. That's awesome.

I do plan to get her going on quail but definitely not just a natural and of course won't point.

Probably, yeah it's hard to send on blind when you don't know where you are sending them to, especially a young dog. Pretty sure it would have resulted in confusion.

I do know this, don't matter how many hand signals they can do, you will never beat a good nose. If they are using their nose they are using their brain.

I am not a Duck Hunter.

She's done a lot of hunting so she knows how to use her nose for sure.

This is where I get into the same conversation I have had with several people..

Our current system of testing dogs in UKC and AKC does not allow a dog to hunt or track on a blind. They judge on control.

After I get Kimber's HRCH I'll be allowing her to a lot more hunting.

During dove season especially you need a dog to dig out those hard to find birds. I promise you she has a great nose and I've seen her did out dove in 5 foot sunflowers. I've just got to make sure I keep that keep the control needed for upper level hunt testing.
