Best time to train

Just got a super smart and driven 5 months old male chocolate lab, Saturday night.
He is house trained, walking pretty good on leash, sitting before eating, learning his crate....etc
He will sit, when I'm putting on his leash and when walking if I put my hand on his rear end.
What's the best time of day and age to introduce more commands?

Right now anytime of the day

Determine your goal, what you ultimately want out of your dog, and work towards it daily. If you can, do short formal sessions multiple times per day.

If he is always energetic and ready to learn then any time of the day is good. Remember that even if you aren't formally "training" the pup is always learning. The biggest thing right now for the pup is building confidence and bonding with you. Give him lots of new positive experiences. Upto 6-7 months I want my pups to be happy, loving birds (alive and dead), meeting new people and learning how to play with other dogs. Take the pup on walks through the woods or fields. Get him to love retrieving. Remember that at times when pups are teething (4-7 months) they may show reluctance to retrieve.

At 7ish months old it's time to start some more formal training. Formal obedience, force fetch, simple casting then collar conditioning.

Has anyone heard of Rave Retrievers and Debra Lee?

Considering professional training, lil man will do great with me, but will not respond as good with the wife, and she is at home with him....
No he's not perfect with me, but there is a noticeable behavior difference, so, hoping a professional can close the gap.

In the San Antonio if anyone has a better suggestion.

The goal for this dog is a companion for hiking, kayaking, traveling and just hanging out.
Since Sunday morning, he has learned to sit, walk on leash, sit before meals, still crate training, but doing great.
He's got super drive outside and nice and quiet in the house!

Had Mr. Chocolate Chip for a week now, need advice with two things, please.

He doesn't like to go back in his crate, when he's in, he's alright, but it's the re-entry, like at 0300 in the morning after he's been out to do his business.

How's the best way to stop him from bolting out the door?

All things considered, he's done great for a 5 months old puppy that was an outside dog until last Saturday night.
And his trainers are novices....

I feed my dogs in their crates so they typically like to go in. Use treats and say "Kennel" put him in and reward.

As for bolting out the door. Put him on a leash, make him sit, open door, if he moves close the door. He should be made to wait till you allow him to go out. It will take some time working on it.

You can also make him wait in his crate to be released. Open the door, if he tries to bolt out slam it shut in his face. Make him sit still till you say he can come out. These are all things that will translate to other training later on.
