Online drugs for dogs

Online drugs for dogs - 09/24/17 02:14 PM

Talk about price gouging. My vet put Cracker on Enrofloxacin at a price of $17.00 each. She needs more. I looked online and found them at around $3.00 each. Do any of you ever buy prescription drugs for your dogs online? Who writes the prescription?

Your vet has to write the prescription they have to fax or e-mail it to who you are ordering from. Some vets won't do it.

There are some sites that are overseas where a Rx might not be needed. It's gotten very difficult the last few years but I would definitely shop around.

It's 136 mg chewable. I was pricing apples to apples.

That's pretty stout. My online store has the brand name for $4.41. The generic for $2.87.

I had a similar experience with a cat and Prednisone. Vet charged my ex $21 for three 4mg tabs that could be had literally for pennies. Needless to say, I didn't go back. My current vet is very reasonable on the price of meds. They are higher but it saves me a trip or the hassle of going online and not really knowing the quality of the drug purchased. I bought overseas once and the meds were 2 years expired.
What's wrong with Cracker? There are cheaper antibiotics in the same family that are more reasonably priced.

There is another vet about the same distance from me. I plan to make a little run up there tomorrow.

Cow_doc, can you write the prescription and sell online? I tried to get on the website but had trouble. Can you PM me the link or post it here again? Thanks

Cowdoc just wondering what stipulations there are for charging a fee for writing Rx? Seem to be a low overhead business model to be had.

Thinking out loud but paying $20 or so to be able to buy online seems like a good deal in these situations.

I cannot prescribe meds for animals I have not seen personally. That's the state law for establishing a 'veterinary-client-patient relationship'. There are pretty clearly defined rules out there for establishing that relationship including that it cannot be established by electronic means.

Charging for a prescription is done by some vets. There's no real rule for it either way.

Veterinarians used to make a significant amount of their profits on drug sales, the online market place has lowered margins on drugs and so prices for services have increased to compensate. That's obviously not true in every situation, but it is a trend.

I'd love an alternative to Bravecto but hate to offend my vet by asking for a prescription for an online purchase. My four dogs ran over $200 for their 3 month treatment which is approaching $1,000 bucks a year to keep the fleas off. The stuff works but dang it's an expensive program.

Bravecto, or any flea control that works isn't cheap. Bravecto averages $40-50 per 3 month dose. There have been some rebates available but it's just not cheap. Times 4 dogs and it really gets expensive. I understand,

Try the seresto collar. I have had great luck with it on my retrievers. They swim multiple times per week and make retrieves in tall grass and fields regularly. I only buy one a year per dog. I also use ivomec for heartworm. There are several websites that show how to dilute it for safe dosage ect..

I dose them with Noromectin which is Ivermectin as well. Bravecto is the only thing I've found that works. I hate to try something else now because it's so hard to break the cycle once your back with a flea problem.

They had to order it themselves. They just called. It's there already. I plan to pick it up tomorrow and buy Cracker a dollar cheeseburger at the McDonalds near there. I really like them. I'd recommend them.

So, if you have a flea problem find a product called "Precor" and mix it with a general pesticide. Spray your yard and pens during a dry spell and your flea and tick problem will be gone for a long, long time. It is a Insect Growth Regulator (IGR). That and Trifexis works for us. Last time I had to spray was a couple years ago.
