The newest addition to team angler management

Picked up this little hellion from Iowa 3 weeks ago and he is a hard charging, no quit athlete. Been hunting and training dogs for a long time and I've never experienced a breed quite like this jagdterrier. He's already destroyed a squirrel I trapped for him, bayed a coon in a trap, and bayed a possum on his own at the deer lease. I've never been this excited to train a hunting dog and see what he can do and he's only 12 weeks old. He'll be introduced to hogs in a pen hopefully on Sunday.

ive heard they have unmatched prey drive and everything I've seen from people who own one it seems to be true.

I let him meet one of my best friends dog who weighs 110lbs and is not very friendly with other dogs. Bart wanted to play but the other dog didn't, and he bit Bart across the back twice. After that Bart figured out the big dog couldn't keep up with him and then it was on. Bart terrorized him for 15 minutes running up barking and biting anything he could reach and then sprint 10 feet away barking and daring the big dog to chase him. Ne just kept going back for more to the point my friend was worried Bart would run his dog to death.

So far he hasn't met another animal he fears, but he does give the cows at the deer lease alot of respect.

Thanks Bobby, and yes, we started some training already but at this point he's pretty easily distracted. The breeder I got him from said they start on blood tracking when the dogs are 5 months old.

I like the breed for their performance and will to please. Forrest

Good looking pup, I just picked up Jager on Sunday and am going to start training on tracking with him. I want him to bay an animal at the end of a trail if needed but not jump out of the UTV and chase down hogs.

Thanks and yours has that look of a hunter as well. As far as tracking I tried with some fresh deer hide when he was 9 weeks old on a few short drags and while he liked the hide, he wasn't interested in finding them. That's when the breeder/trainer told me they don't mess with it till they're 5 months. I tried it again just to see what he would do with the fresh rabbit and you can tell from the videos he at least understands the concept. In my experience if I want a solid hunting/working dog you have to train at least 5 days a week. It can't be just Sunday afternoons. It's a lot of work but it's worth it.

as pups do you train 5 days a week? I was thinking about doing 2-3 days so he doesn't get burned out and adjusting from there based on his drive and interest.

He goes everywhere I go and we work on something different every day. Obedience, retrieving searching for frozen quail in the grass and now that he shows alot of interest in drags we're going to do that once a week from here on out and then get serious about it here in 6 weeks or so. He hasn't shown any quit or boredom with anything yet except heeling. He does ok for the 1st 10 minutes and then starts slowly letting me know he's ready for more fun stuff.
