allergies or more serious issue?

allergies or more serious issue? - 02/24/16 04:20 PM

My bird dog is 9 months old and recently I've noticed he has these little bald spots on his back that he's been scratching, but hair is growing over them. I first noticed a few little spots when I picked him up from the trainer after I left him there for a month for his basic bird work training.

When I sent him to the trainer his diet changed. I was feeding puppy chow, but they were feeding Purina Pro Plan (which is what he was fed before I picked him up from the breeder).

I switched to Purina Pro Plan and have been feeding that to him since I picked him up due to recommendations from trusted sources. His demeanor is still very active/happy and BMs are solid/healthy. I've been putting anti-itch cream on the spots and that has really helped.

Thoughts? If I switch his food any suggestions on feed to start using?

Take your pup to the vet. My money is on the fact that this is not a good issue. At least you'll know for sure.

I agree with just taking him to the vet.
There are a lot of different things it could be, and waiting sometimes just makes to worse.
Just a few things that COULD be causing the problem.
Allergies to food, or environmental.
Some dogs are even allergic to fleas.
Different types of mange.
Bacterial skin infection.
Yeast, but that normally starts in ears, or feet before it spreads.

My dogs can even get itchy if their skin is to dry.
