Looking for family lease - Easier said than done

I've really been finding out how hard it is to find a good quality deer lease for the right price that allows family. I have two boys boys (4yr & 6yr old) that I'm wanting to introduce to the sport. I'm looking for an annual lease that allows family, has management minded & respectful hunters, and a nice lease that I can stay on long term to manage the deer and always have a nice place to go hunting as well as bring my family along, kill two birds with one stone. I don't think it's that hard. There's a few on here right now. Most leases I see allow wife and kids. I'm woundering if your limiting your options because of price or drive time.

Biggest problem I have seen with people looking for a "family lease" is they want to pay for one spot and allow their wife and kids to take their limit of game as well. Most places I have been on will allow wife and kids to hunt but anything they take counts as your quota for the year if you are only paying for one spot.

There are way more family friendly leases out there now than there was when I was growing up.

Nope im not. Just looking for something long term, not a 2yr lease. I want something that I can invest 5, 10, 15 years in to grow quality deer and a quality lease while being surrounded by respectful, management minded hunters as well that dont shoot anything that walks. I live in Dallas and I'm looking preferrably in the Hill country of texas. I'm fine with a 5 or 6 hr drive, no problem. A big plus is some type of lodging on site (not a 2 story, 10 bedroom mansion), like a 3 or 4 bedroom trailer for the kids and wife to come, decent amount of acres (500+), and has deer and good offseason varmint, hog hunting. Thats it....Im used to the menard, tx area wildlife. Maybe my expectations are too high

Thats pretty much what I'm looking for. My boys to shoot off my tags (when they're old enough) and the lease. 1 to 2 deer is enough for me (meat whise) for the year. As far as bucks go, If I'm not putting it on the wall, I'm not shooting it. As well as, If I'm not eating it, I'm not killing it. So anything I or my family put down, we're eating. And my kids will be well aware of that too as they get older.

Thanks for yalls input. I have spoke with dave already and went over the lease with him via google maps. It is a possibility but really trying to find something w/ some sort of lodging on site for my kids and wife when I bring them every once in awhile. That place with Dave may be a last resort.

Gee thanks Last Resort LOL. No I understand. doubt you will get individual lodging for you and your wife and family unless you get your own lease. and definitely not with our acreage and price. I cant believe I still don't have a commitment to go look at it. It may just be its not meant to be.

LOL. I think you got a spot thats worth giving a shot for a year or two and seeing how it turns out at minimum. I just want to make sure nothing else comes up in the mean time that fits my needs better. If I commit with you I'm afraid I'll be coming mostly by myself and dad due to the lack of a 4yr & 6yr old needs on the property. You can only keep kids that age entertained for so long. The last thing I want is to take my wife and kids out and be listening to whining and moaning because they're hot and cold and yada yada. But I'm not giving up on it yet. I've talked with my father too and we're committed to come look at some point before feb 1st for two spots if nothing else comes up meanwhile.

Just for clarification. I dont need "individual lodging" for them. In the past leases I've had the lodging that more or less was shared between multiple rooms for the hunters. However, other than opening day, you never really had all hunters there at one time so it worked out. During the season, I'm thinking more like a one weekend time deal where I would bring my wife and kids. For them, I mostly want the lodging for the offseason varmint and hog hunting and a place to just get away from the city and relax, shoot beebee guns and what have ya.

I hope it works out and we meet in person. I will keep you in the loop. 3 different guys for 2 to 3 spots said they wanted to see it tomorrow and would get in touch by Fri and not a word as of now. who knows.

Why don't you just buy a camper? Seems like that would solve this part of the issue. Doesn't take much to be comfortable.

Good luck on your search. They are out there, just tough to find. As with most good things, it either comes from word of mouth or it is going to cost you.

I've been down that road before w/ campers. At this point with my boys age and not being able to make a 5hr trip to the lease just to do maintenance on the camper, I'd prefer something that was a little more robust and a group effort in maintaining. I would love to spend every weekend at the lease but unfortunately I can't due to obvious family responsibilities. Hence why I'm looking for something a little more persuasive and inviting for the old lady to want to join more of the lease trips in the off season providing more lease time for me. It'd be a win, win! Just gonna continue my homework until (IF) something comes up.

Umm, ya think??? Lol.. You should get your family on a decent ranch and hope for the best. I've hunted texas for ten years now and haven't seen a ranch that couldn't be sold or traded. What's worse getting on a decent ranch and hunting like crazy or sitting at home in November thinking of missed opportunities?

There are leases like your looking for available if your willing to pony up the money....IE. pay for your family members and get on a good place with all the amenities your looking for. Good or bad, trophy hunting has made "family" leases tough to come by nowadays. Usually in my experience, the wants outweigh the needs (or vice versa, who knows!)when it comes time to write the check.

You might consider a used travel trailer for your needs.
