Matagorda Trout GIANTS! *Pic heavy, enjoy* - 04/25/16 02:25 PM

The last couple days can only be described as WOW! Just when we thought Matagorda fishing couldn’t possibly get any better, the guys roll off a weekend that clients won’t soon forget. Personal best were not only topped, but multiple times in the same trip. A handful of trout are on their way to the taxidermist and another handful of measurements are as well. I lost count of how many trout in the 25-30 inch range that were released, but it seemed like 3-5 on every trip. We have had some epic runs before while wading in the summer, but I can honestly say we can’t remember a run like this while drifting and throwing shrimp or gulps under a cork. It has flat out been insane! The Matagorda Bay system is in the best shape we have ever seen it and if we continue to get these rains that won’t change. It is so full of life, bait and food that it gets me excited just sitting here typing this.
Drifting with popping cork and shrimp or gulp has been the ticket. Locating streaky water with bait has been key. Depth of leader depends on water depth and at what depth the fish are feeding.

Hope you enjoy the pictures and release videos. If you’re interested in catching fish like the ones you see below, contact us as we have a few openings this week(Tues-Fri). May-July dates are starting to fly off the calendar, so we need to hear from you ASAP if you want to lock something down.

When do your alligator hunts start? I'm really wanting to go on one this year.

Totally off topic, but I saw in your photo section a fire pit with "felderhoff brothers drilling" I'm just curious what the connection is. I've done jobs with them in the past, good group from what I've seen.

Our gator season is in Sept every year. Let me know when you're interested and we can get it all set up for you!

Some of the guys come down and hunt & fish with us and other times clients bring them. We didn't have a fire pit at the time and they offered us that one as a gift and so others would see it when they stayed at the lodge or whenever we post pictures and it's in it.

The guys hit the water yesterday and today to do a little scouting and make sure they were still on the fish. We've had a lot of freshwater runoff and wind over the last couple days and they just wanted to check on a few spots and get some fish for themselves. Needless to say they are still dialed in! Caleb waded and caught trout both with lures and bait. Fletcher drifted and located the BIG girls again as they released a 28' and 29' trout along with a handful in the 24-27' range to fight another day. We have a boat open on Saturday for anyone interested along with a couple openings next week and weekend. After next weekend our weekends really start to get full for the summer, so if you're interested we need to hear from you ASAP. Enjoy the pictures and we look forward to hearing from you!

Matagorda Bay just keeps on producing solid boxes of fish for our clients! The weather wasn't the best mid-week, but that didn't stop the fish from eating. Drifting with popping cork and shrimp or gulp still seems to be the most productive, but one boat did hammer them pretty good on Sunday while bouncing soft plastics off the bottom while drifting. Wading with croaker produced limits across the board of both trout and redfish over the weekend as well. Whether you are wanting to wade or drift, we can flat out put you on the fish right now! Over the last handful of day our boats combined to release another dozen or so trout in the 24-28' range. We currently have some openings this week and weekend for anyone interested. After this weekend we don't have many more weekend slots available the rest of May.

To book, please contact either Daniel or Nick. If Daniel doesn't respond, please call or text Nick. Daniel and his wife Lauren go in Monday morning for a scheduled C-section to introduce their 2nd daughter into the world, so he won't be responding as fast as normal.

Is usually really good. Wind is typically lighter in Aug so drifting(fishing from the boat) is always very possible. It is a little warmer in Aug, but we can catch some fish and try and beat the summer heat and get in before it gets to bad.

Great morning on the bay for this group! Customer caught his personal best and she is on the way to the taxidermist. Action was pretty solid all morning drifting with popping cork and shrimp or bouncing soft plastics off the bottom. Have some openings next week Mon-Thur and Sun(15th) for anyone interested. Hope you enjoy the video.

Fishing stayed strong for our clients last week and into the weekend while drifting throwing popping cork and live shrimp or bouncing soft plastics off the bottom. Limits of trout or right at limits were taken every day with a handful of bonus fish as well. We also released a handful of trout in the 25-28 inch range to fight another day. The only day that turned into a grind and didn’t have the results of the previous days was Sunday as the wind was howling and the entire bay was pretty churned up. Drifting will continue to produce good boxes as long as the wind is in our favor. Wading with croaker has been done sporadically over the last couple weeks and is definitely a viable option now for anyone interested or when the winds are too strong to catch them drifting.

Our calendar is really starting to fill up as we don’t have many Fri-Sun left from now till mid-Aug. We do still have plenty of weekdays left, but they are also starting to fill up as well. If you’re interested in fishing with us, we need to hear from you ASAP to get you on the calendar before all our dates are gone.

Openings for the rest of May look like this:

May 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 18, 19, 23-27, 29, 30 & 31

Re: Matagorda Trout GIANTS! *Pic heavy, enjoy* - 05/11/16 09:45 PM

Yesterday our groups both had to wade as a result of the winds we have been having since the weekend. As you can see from the pictures, the results were still the same. Limits of trout for both boats and one had a couple reds as well. Whether we're wading or drifting depending on the wind, we are on the fish to say the least. If you want in on the action, contact us and we'll do our best to make it happen for you and your group! Still have a couple openings early next week.

This past week and weekend was a very productive one for our fishing clients. Wading and drifting both produced solid boxes of fish. The waders were throwing croaker and wet wading, while the drifters were mostly using live shrimp under a popping cork. Saturday was the Fort Bend County Fair “Boots and Buckles” tourney that we run a handful of boats in. This is an amateur tourney only, so our guides can only drive boat, net fish and bait hooks. Congrats to Rylan that won the Jr angler award with the largest trout that went just at 28” and right under 7lbes. Our other wading boat had a good box of fish as well, but not enough weight to get them in the winner’s circle.

Whether you want to wade or drift, we have been catching fish both ways(drift or wade) depending on the wind. This week looks like a wash due to the weather, but we have some openings if it should clear off Wed & Thur. Next week we have openings as well Mon-Fri along with Sun(29th) for anyone interested in catching some fish.

Re: Matagorda Trout GIANTS! *Pic heavy, enjoy* - 05/18/16 04:29 PM

High tides yesterday had the trout right up next to the bank, or at least that's where we found them. Focusing on bait around the entrance of cuts that had moving water was the key. First stop didn't have much bait thus we didn't find any fish so we made a move pretty quick. Next stop had bait getting blown out of the water up tight to the bank so we new we'd have better results here. Didn't take long and everyone was hooked up and having a blast. Strung our trout limit and played catch and release for a little while before heading in ahead of the next round of storms. Did have one tourney size red that was just under 28" and over 9lbs on the boga that we decided to let go for good karma.

We have boat available tomorrow(Thur) for anyone wanting to catch some fish. Below are the rest of our May openings for anyone interested.

May 23-27, 29-31

Our only June weekend opens are as follows:

June 5, 19, 25, 26

Re: Matagorda Trout GIANTS! *Pic heavy, enjoy* - 05/23/16 02:46 PM

WOW! Talk about a weekend for the memory books..... Our drifting boats Fri-Sun were on an absolute roll catching and releasing monster trout. Focusing on streaky water over mud and shell while throwing either popping cork with shrimp or bouncing soft plastics off the bottom was the ticket to hammering the fish. Our wading boat each day held its own, but it was much more of a grind than what the drifters were experiencing. The waders were however rewarded with the largest fish of the weekend as they released 2-29" trout that topped 8#'s on the boga along with a handful in the 27-28" range as well. All the rain and freshwater runoff hasn't hurt our fishing as you can see from the pictures. If you're interested in catching some fish with us, lucky for you we have some openings coming up.

UPCOMING OPENINS AS OF 5/23/16
May: 24-27, 29-31
June: 2, 3, 5-9, 13-17, 19

Re: Matagorda Trout GIANTS! *Pic heavy, enjoy* - 05/31/16 11:28 AM

Last week we had a couple days that were a grind during the week as we were dealing with higher winds and clients that didn’t/couldn’t wade. We were still able to put them on fish, but it wasn’t our normal boxes as of late. As the week went on, things definitely got better! We got back on track with wading groups on Fri & Sat that both caught good boxes of fish over grass beds and sand flats in West Bay. On Sun the winds were light and the drifting game was on fire! The youngsters had an absolute blast catching fish all morning, including some personal best.

So far all the rain and runoff hasn’t hurt the fishing. Depending on what the Colorado River does might effect if we can get into West Matagorda Bay or not for a couple days, but so far that’s our only concern. No matter what the winds have been doing, we are catching fish while wading. When the winds are lighter, the drifting has been awesome. As we continue to transition into summer time patterns, wading will continue to be the most consistent as drifting results will totally be dependent on the wind.
