South Texas Hunting Outfitters- Haiden Mensik - 08/31/15 06:27 PM
A little about me before you read the review-
I've worked as a hunting guide in the US and worked for outfitters in the US, Africa, and New Zealand. I've hunted 15 states, primarily bow hunting, and hunted with numerous outfitters. I primarily hunt DIY public land, but lets face it, that's not gonna happen in Texas!
So, after much research, I booked an Axis hunt for a buddy and myself. I chose South Texas Hunting Outfitters due to many excellent reviews and the price was right. Just before the hunt, the landowner Haiden was using passed away. Unfortunately, all hunting was put on hold at this ranch. Haiden offered to return our deposits, however, I insisted we come if possible due to already booking plane tickets for our wives that were non-refundable. Haiden bent over backwards and found us another ranch to hunt.
It was obvious at this point that Haiden and his crew were really putting a lot of time and effort into fixing the situation...and they did! We were able to go on the hunt and saw a ton of animals. Although we didn't kill anything, we saw upwards of 50 whitetail each night and a very large blackbuck that Haiden also said we could shoot in lieu of an axis. We did not see any shooter axis bucks in the first couple of hunts though and the guide offered to take us to another ranch and give us extra time to hunt hogs and javelina. We drove to the next ranch and saw some nice hogs. Looking at the road, it was clear the ranch was full of pigs and javelina! I let my buddy take a couple of stalks. He was brand new to hunting so I wanted him to get it doe first. Long story short, we didn't kill anything.
Haiden then contacted us and offered us a whole other day at ZERO extra charge. We were unable to take advantage of this though, since we made plans with our wives to visit San Antonio the next day.
Once we returned home, Haiden contacted me and offered a return visit free of charge to hunt again.
I'm a seasoned hunter and I know sometime things just don't fall together on a hunt. Haiden and his guide were extremely professional and bent over backwards to make things work for us. I cannot say enough to speak to the quality of customer service and communication of Haiden and STXHO. I would 100% recommend this outfitter to anyone! I work for some big names in the industry and will certainly be recommending they hunt with Haiden.
If anyone would like to ask specifc questions, please feel free to PM me. You will not find a more Honest guide, and to me Honesty, professionalism, and communication are way more important than animals! I am excited to book another hunt with Haiden!
God Bless and Happy Hunting,
Jake
P.S. we saw a couple dandy bucks that were still holding bone!
