Cheap haning 5gallon bucket feeder, hanging question - 09/10/18 01:39 PM

Ive got a spot that ive not hunted before, where i'm going to try to bow hunt this year. And since its only for bow season, I just bought a cheapy $50 bucket feeder. The only trees to hang it from are part of the cover where I staged my popup blind, and the area directly infront of me has no trees.....so i didnt quite think that through i guess.

Any ideas on a cheap easy to build contraption, to hang this bucket feeder from???

Many thanks!

What about a feeder pipe on a t-post? A 3 or 4" PVC about 5' long with elbow on the bottom and cap on top. Attach to a t-post fill with corn.

That would work if no cows in area, however, I don't know if the coons would empty it the first night.

I have one that I received as a Christmas gift. I didn't have much need for it, but thought since free, will hang near barn for observation. Two t-posts with a 3rd as a cross to hang feeder. Raccoons and squirrels emptied it within two days. Was kind of a waste of a half bag of corn, so I haven't sat back up.

Take a long piece of barbed wire and attach it high up in the tree next to you and stretch it out to either another high limbed tree or bush. Or put a tall post or pipe in the ground and attach the wire high to it. Now hang your 5 gallon bucket feeder in the middle of the wire. Raccoons won't hang on barbed wire. You can put chicken wire around the bottom of the bucket so that it will surround the timer to keep birds and squirrels from reaching the spinner plate.

wish I could find a picture of the set up my dad first used. It was a piece of pipe, probably 8-12 feet long that he put a couple of I bolts thru the top to tie off in several directions to existing trees using barbed or slick fencing wire to stabilize it but left the pole slightly leaning to the side where the feeder would hang.

I used a ladder, went up a couple of trees - used a ratchet strap between 2 trees.
