4x6 or 5x7 blind

4x6 or 5x7 blind - 10/09/17 06:21 PM

Gonna build a few blinds to pay some unexpected bills. What size would be better. I know 5x7 is odd ball for materials but seems a little extra room wouldn't hurt.

5x7. Bigger is always better. I hunted out of a 4x6 last season and it was a beating, was def a one person blind. Just my .02

5x7 is much more comfortable, allows the "lean back" action.

5x7 of your choices. My dad just bought an all seasons 5x5 blind and it seems like it has lots more room than my 4x6

I hunt regularly in a 4x6 with 2 people and never felt cramped or uncomfortable even with 2 office chairs but 5x7 would be nice as well.

Years ago I had a 4x7 shipping container, it was like a blind and a cabin in one. 2 adults can easily hunt out of it, if only 1 it will have all kinds of extra space.

Bigger is better but not if it's too heavy and hard to fit in a trailer or pickup truck bed. That's why I like light weight 4x6 designs.

Light weight is good, two person erecting. I made mine so that all sides and roof were separate and erected in the field by one person even 10 ft elevated.

5x7 is a great size, especially if you are hunting with kids.

Weight is really my main concern....Would like to try fiberglass eventually...

Most of my guns have a 26 or 28in barrel which is hard to get out of a window in a 4' blind. I build mine 7x8 for my long guns and always have at least one kid with me. I've built some 8x8 which is what I'll build them from now on just to minimise cutting.

We hunt 4x6's. Makes more sense in materials heh. We do ours a little different than most though. I build them deeper instead of wider. When 2 people are hunting I like it better to sit behind my kids/wife. this way I dont restrict their shooting at all. It makes it harder to have 2 shooters in the stand, but we rarely have 2 guns in the stand without 1 being a sidearm

I built my current one at 5x8. I started thinking 5x7 but the extra foot minimized cutting and it sure is roomy as all get out inside.

After building (2) 5 foot deep stands, I won't ever go back to a 4 footer. An extra hour cutting and the nominal cost is well worth it for the long days spent sitting in it.

We built a 4x8 and it's great for 2 adults and a kid. Next one will be a 5x8 or 6x8 for the added leg room to stretch out or recline back.

Add a few vertical narrow windows and ready for two bow hunters too.

This, I have a 5x8 that has a 7 foot high roof with a residential door on it. It is everyone's favorite blind on the lease. Easily hunt 3 people and the kiddos can sleep in front or behind you on the floor if they need a nap.

Won't you have a lot of wasted material in a 5x7?

Just by making it 5 ft you are going to have waste but yes, with a 7 ft width it is more waste.

No there's not much waste....You can use the 12" drop from the 7 foot side for the 5 foot side...I am planning on building several so I'll use the drops from the floor and roof for the next one's...

Go bigger if you can get it where you want it.

I like a 5x8! It's big enough for two captain chairs with high backs. If I build to have another one built I will have it built to these measurements.

Re: 4x6 or 5x7 blind - 12/24/17 09:57 PM

We currently have several 4x6, but I'm kicking around the idea of building a 6x6. We usually put the back of the stand to a brush line or back facing the fence, so we only build Windows on the front and sides. 6 ft wide works well for 2 people, but I think the extra depth would be good.

Re: 4x6 or 5x7 blind - 01/02/18 06:17 PM

You might want to think about 5'X6'. You would have room to stretch out and still hunt two hunters.

Re: 4x6 or 5x7 blind - 02/05/18 01:52 AM

I have a new one thats 6x8 - i would never buy or build one less than 5x8.

the 5' side is now the new normal -the extra room makes it Oh so worth it. I would do a 5x6 or 5x7 but the wood and waste for 5x8 makes it not sorth it.

Re: 4x6 or 5x7 blind - 02/05/18 01:59 AM

There is actually zero waste on 5x8....Every drop is used...

Built one this past yr. for me and the Mrs. I am 6'2", yeah cramped and have to place my chair length ways. 6x6 would be my choice

I don't like 4' wide blinds either.
6x6 or 6x8 would be my go to size especially if building multiple to sell. I think you can design a 6x6 to meet just about any hunting need, and the 6x8 is great for two person hunting. Only downfall is the weight if someone is planning to elevate it in my opinion.

The 4’ is what makes it seem small unless you hunt the skinny ends primarily
