Who lost feeders and/or blinds to the flooding?

Who lost feeders and/or blinds to the flooding? - 06/12/15 04:57 AM

The Trinity at Oakwood is only down about four feet from its peak on June 1...which means its still 30' above normal.

I had a barrel feeder, on 6' tripod legs that went completely under water. I thought it was safe... the previous high water mark at the feeder location was less than a foot of water. Last Friday, the lid was barely visible above water, and that was after the level had dropped a foot or so. The timer and battery will be gone and I suspect the motor will be ruined. I'm hoping the solar panel will be salvageable. There is going to be some nasty corn in that thing when the water goes down.

I also have a game cam under about 4 feet of water.

It looks like my new Box Blind is still high and dry on a little knoll, but I had a ladder & platform type tree stand, right on the river bank, that is gone...gone as in the huge 100 year old Oak that it was in is not stickup up out of the water; the bank must have eroded to the point the tree fell in and washed away.

I'm on the outside of a bend in the river...I wonder how much land I've lost in this flood?

So the river is still up? Dang thats the longest Ive seen it up. My property is near little white rock creek which is a good distance from your place. I drove over the river last weekend in Riverside. I couldnt believe how high and the duration of the flood is going on. Usually it last for a couple of days, but weeks? Little white rock creek flooded into our property for a day. I have 1 stand and two feeders that made through a couple feet of water undisturbed. I got lucky. I cant even imagine what you have to go through. Take some good photos. They will be good to share around the camp fire during season. Good luck and watch for snakes.

The peak gauge height I remember seeing since we bought the property in 2008 is about 43'(Nov '09), and that was just for a few hours, then it went down. The river has now been above 43' since May 15th.

Our weekend cabin is still another 30" higher, so no danger there, but we had site near the river picked out to build a retirement home...the location is still high and dry, with another 10' - 12' to spare, but the path I had spotted for a driveway has 3' of water in places. I took some pictures and marked the water line on some trees last weekend. We will definitely need a plan B on the driveway.

I hunt on one of the inside bends of the Brazos. 1 game cam, 2 barrels feeders, and a blind I built with 10 foot legs were all under water. I still do not know their fate, because I cannot get to them, but do not have high hopes.

Still lots of water in the lakes to head that way Joe Pool is flooded all the way back to 360 in Mansfield. The places where people would park to fish are still 3-5 deep

If anybody in the THF family has lost any feeders due to the flooding let me know. I'll work a special deal to get you back in action for the season. I'll also work with you to re-use those parts of your feeders that are still operational to save some $. My home area of Hays County was affected badly. Tough luck for lots of folks, disaster for others.

Our lease in Brown County on Pecan Bayou was not damaged. All hunting blinds/feeders were in good shape. Other than low water crossing not usable had to take long route to get on South portion of lease. RV Park has been overgrown with all the rains. Will cleanup site in Fall.

You fellas just wait till this one blows through, could get a lot of folks underwater if we get six inches with the ground saturated.

We wont loose any of it, but we have a tower stand, protein feeder and corn feeder clustered around our tank. They are all standing in about a foot or so of water. Since we were there last weekend we have had another 2.5 inches of rain, so im sure it caught some more run off.

We had 5 more inches of rain at the property this past week. Where does it all go? Trinity river. Do a google search for 2015 trinity river flood. Some amazing photos. May and June has been crazy. The almost 3 weeks of drying out gave us some time to get some work done. Now we have to start all over again. Just keeps us busy for the next few weekends. Have been filling 4 diesel cans for 3 weekends in a row. I'm wearing out the lawn mower and the shredder blades. At least we have a full pond for the first time in 8 years. I'm not sure if the creek flooded again. Checking on stands and feeders again this weekend. Just filled them up 2 weeks ago. Snakes, spiders, bees, wasps, fire ants and mosquitoes are everywhere. Does anything get rid of fire ants? Lots of field mice, rats and rabbits. Haven't seen any fawns. Grass is to high. Haven't heard yotes in a while??????? Usually hear them nightly.

I'm going down this weekend to see where the water is and if I can get to the feeder that drowned...although I'm now sure what to do if I can get to it. I refilled it just before the flooding started, so the barrel should have been over 3/4 full when it went completely underwater. That has got to be some raunchy corn in there. Since the motor and timer are dead, I'm wondering if I should even try salvaging it...I'm thinking the process of digging that corn out is going to be gut wrenching and slow. I may just push it over with the tractor and let the hogs clean it out.

If the lid is latched on, it may have swelled enough to spit the barrel. If it was me and the barrel needed replaced, I'd rob the legs and good hardware and start over (on higher ground)

Water level is still just below the motor. Guess I'll try again in a couple of weeks

Not me, but a guy I hunted with in 2011 moved to a new lease somewhere on the Trinity. He said his motors went underwater along with his camper.
When we were in Mason Co in 2000, we had one hunter that had a feeder in a dry creek bottom.
Never found it

I did and they clear cut the only dry area. Not sure what to do.
