Spin-tech Spinner on Road Feeder Problem (Sliding Down constantly)

Spin-tech Spinner on Road Feeder Problem (Sliding Down constantly) - 01/05/15 01:30 AM

We bought replacement spin-tech spinner plates for our All Season Road feeders but the new ones come with a single phillips head screw. No matter how hard we tighten the darn thing it slides down over time with all the vibration I guess. We noticed the old spin-techs appear to have (2) hex set screws and we don't have problem with that set up for some reason. Let me know what you did to keep yours from sliding down if you have the single phillips screw type? If we go to a regular spinner plate it is way too low the way the motor is set and cannot be raised.

Spin-tech rep recommended Loctite on the set screw. We will try this but I don't think it will work unless we put some down the shaft too.

Blue Loctite on the shaft and set screw will do it.

Would love to install a second set screw but the spin-tech device has metal so I guess I would have to drill a pilot hole with a very small bit and then try to drive a little bigger screw. I am going to try the loctite first.

take phillips screw out got to hardware store get the clerk to give you a couple of socket(allen) headed screws the same size. i would also get a drill bit and tap the same size and add a second screw 90 degrees around from the first. once set then i would use red loctite to make sure it stays.

drilling and tapping the second hole, is no big task. do it right and you only have to do it once

Thanks, I have to try that. I have never drilled in a threaded hole before.

I think our real problem on the spin-tech replacement is that they didn't thread the screw hole all the way thru so it is impossible to tighten the screw against the shaft of the motor! That is why we cannot get it tight enough on 2 replacement units we have! They did a poor job threading the units. I found the same problem with another type of spinner plate as well!

(Note: I also found that different 12 volt motors with 1/4" shaft have a slightly different shaft diameter. SO the Spin-Tech as designed may work on one motor but not another even though both at 1/4" shaft).
