Best 12 volt timers

Best 12 volt timers - 10/06/14 05:36 PM

I have had terrible luck with BA Products. I have had 2 short out in 2 years. Biggest pieces of carp I have ever dealt with. I would get a Moutrie but they are 6 volts. Who makes a good 12v timer?

Strange, I hear a lot of complaints about timers going bad but I have never had a problem. I have been using an Academy Game Getter timer for nearly 5 years and never had a problem. I bought an extra one just in case and never had to use it.

I've only used the On Time Elite. This will be my fifth season using this one. They take 10 AA batteries. I change batteries twice per and I feed all year too.

I am beginning to think that the motor has some problem that is shorting out the timers. Brother is going replace the motor. I suggesting load testing the current motor to see if it is pulling too many amps or something. We have an EE on the lease and he has not figured it out.

HCR, sent one in after 11 years, they repaired it for me....put in new battery clip. $2.00 charge can't beat that.

All seven of our feeders have Texas Hunter timers. We have been using them for years and as long as the feeder stays upright and the coons don't tear them up, they last a long time. We probably average having to buy a new one every year to year and a half (because the feeders don't always stay up right and coons are @$$h0!e$ bang) they are only $99 when we do need a replacement. Plus they are very user friendly and can feed up to 9 times a day. I am not real sure why someone would want to feed 9 times a day, but if you so desire...

Me too. I've had tx hunter product timers on 10 of my feeders since 2007. I've had to fix a few wires from solar panels from coon damage over the years, but that's not really a timer issue. Easy to learn, easy to use, pretty much idiot proof. I think the $99 price somebody else mentioned was for a whole unit (timer, motor, spinner, box, mounting brackets), not just the timer. Been a while for me, so I could be wrong.

I have a couple of Monarchs that are doing well, and you can't beat their customer service. I can swing by there at lunch and they fix it on the spot.

There are more good timers than good cameras.

"The Timer" gets my money! Works great.

Re: Best 12 volt timers - 10/13/14 03:59 PM

Another vote for "The Timer." I've tried a bunch of different brands over the years, and "The Timer" has been the most reliable by far. I currently have 5 of them, ranging in age from 2 to 8 years old. One of them has been running non-stop 24/7 for the past 6 years without a hiccup.

They are very reliable, and they are fuse-protected, so if something gets bound up on your spinner plate and you get an overload, it doesn't damage the electronics.

Have you look at Triple C feeders. They are made in Burleson and would say one of the most reliable feeders I have used. (817)561-9200

I have had very good service out of my Spintech 12v timers.

Re: Best 12 volt timers - 10/22/14 11:58 AM

I like and use HCR, I have used one for more than 15 years and installed many on feeders with no problems of my own and only one for a customer, and it was quickly resolved. I would repeat what others have said HCR or THE TIMER are great, no good experience with the others.

Us too. I have found however their timers will run on either 6 or 12 volt systems. They are not nearly as realiable on 6 volt systems as they are on 12's.

They come standard with the best feeders in the world, Diamond Feeders.

Re: Best 12 volt timers - 11/18/14 05:49 PM

Went with the timer this year. Super easy to program - only issue I had is one feeder battery was so low, it assumed it was a 6 volt so the battery gauge did not calibrate correctly (a charge and a reset fixed that). It has dual battery gauges (timer and spinner battery, timer uses spinner battery until with a AA as a programing backup). Very easy to program. No long term experience though.

Re: Best 12 volt timers - 12/11/14 02:46 PM

Thought I would bring this back to the top since I'm needing to replace a couple of timers. I have been replacing the others with All Season with the "Timer". They have been working great.
But does anybody have any experience with Spintech Timers??? Found these with the eliminator spin plate already mounted for about $50 less.

Re: Best 12 volt timers - 12/12/14 11:41 AM

you can get the eliminator plate separately, and I have seen the time that in my attempt to save a few bucks... well you know. I can tell you that The Timer and HCR are both very good timers. So you are replacing the entire FCU and finding one with a spin-tech unit one it for 50.00 cheaper than another. I have heard of the spin tech bring sold separately for 39.00, if it's like the Remington 30.00 units beware.
