Best place to purchase Gun safe

What is best place you guys have found to purchase a gun safe?

TSC runs some good deals. As does Academy.

How much money are you wanting to spend? That will be the deciding factor on where you want to shop.

gun safes are hardly a thing to scrimp on if you are really serious about protecting things. The cheap ones that go on sale are very easily broken into by people who know what they are doing. Also, the cheaper ones will not have the fire resistance the more expensive ones will.

Budget is key here. If you are looking to spend 500 bucks on a safe (which is really nothing more than a gun locker with a combination), then just wait for the next sale and buy. If you are looking for a real safe, then you won't find those on sale much. So just depends what you are looking for.

Not trying to be rude, just stating facts about safes.


One other thing, buy twice as big as you think you will need.

He's right AND you could find a decent used one if you watch the internet but, they sell really fast.

I went to a gun show....talked to several vendors....looked at several models....then picked out two and got gun show sales price...

Not all safes are created equal. There are major name brand safes that are Chinese made selling in big box stores. Not sure your location but I searched for a long time before buying mine.

Liberty? Not IMO.

I just got a Liberty and i love it.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the brands listed above. Quality safes start at about 10k and can cost more than a new car.

Any gun safe is better than none. At least one may slow the bad guys down for a while. How much did your safe cost and what brand?

I agree 100% with any safe is better than no safe.

My safe is a cheap one like the ones posted above. Paid $1000 for it used with the door locked and open.

This would be my first choice, quality and not 30k+.

You can buy direct from Sturdy Safe. Very good unit. Call them direct and ask for any discounts. They discounted mine extra because they only had to ship to
Texas.

If you are in NE TX, you can probably shop around from Dallas to Shreveport. The companies that sell safes will be doing deliveries for hundreds of miles. You may just have to wait a few weeks until they are in your area. I bought mine from a place in Houston (about 2 hours away) and never sat foot in their store. They were the cheapest, plus offered free in house delivery, and anchored it to the slab. It's worth getting online and getting quotes. I saved about $800 over buying locally and the local company didn't do free delivery.

As mentioned above, Sturdy Safe is also a great company. They were high on my list.

From what I read and researched, ANY commercially available safe can be broken into in a matter of minutes by thieves who understand how to do it and NO safe regardless of advertisement or pricing will protect your guns in a fire. In other words, if thieves who know you have guns break into your home to steal them they probably know you will have them secured and most likely will be able to access them in a matter or minutes. I went so far as to speak with a company that manufactures some very nice safes and they use the term storage and not safe and even go as far to recommend you don't purchase their brand that is fire rated. Now, that being said, safes can and are just one step in protecting your property. Good doors, windows and a security system also are part of that prevention. I spent about half as much as I planned on for my gun storage after extensive research into this very issue. I have photographed and inventoried all of my guns and valuables and made sure my insurance agent has a copy of that information in case of theft or fire. Just my two cents as I was in the market just a few months ago as well.

tShawnB speaks the truth. I have seen two "high dollar" fire safes go thru an actual fire, beyond the water damamg, there is no way I would even consider shooting any of the guns in these "safes".

I have a couple of Security Products safes, a couple of Browning's and while the Browning's have a higher/loner fire rating, the Security Products are better built.

hell all my guns are spread around my house where I can access them quickly. My only "safe" is a wooden one thats decretive lol. Our dogs are here when were not and thats been a steady safety net for 25 years or more. But I get the need to have them for some people.

Atwood’s has a good selection and great prices but, you have to stay on top of the employees, I don’t think they know what they’re doing half the time
