Many searchable threads here on just that. Lotsa good info.
I use Covert Code Black 3G and do not need to elevate the antenna, but antennas are available for most cameras that transmit data. I have one but have not needed it yet.
My hunters currently have 12 Covert Special Ops Code Black 3G camera operating. Three are in very poor cell phone areas but they seem to work without the external booster antenna which is an available accessory. The pictures are excellent.
Not sure how they do it but the pictures are continually fed to their private web page which is updated with each picture. I like it.

The web page thing is interesting. My 3G cams send to email or text message. I use text message.
A couple of the new guys have brought the 21st century to the lease. Next time I visit with them, I am going ask about the technology. I think it is somehow linked in with dollars.

The long term cost is all about your AT&T plan. Mine is ancient, with free unlimited family text. The Covert cams cost me $9.95 a month for unlimited pics.
I use a Covert as well, currently with the Covert external antenna on a piece of sched. 40 PVC tie-wrapped to a T-Post. I had to use a wagi antenna ($100) I think they're called on my lease in OK which had really poor reception. You need the Covert Solar panel as they eat batteries, great picture quality. The AT&T cell plan now is $30. :-( Go to the AT&T Store to get the plan setup and bring the camera with you, do not try and do it online.
I also have the Spartan cam by HCO. Bought mine in September and I've had it running continuously with no problems. I have it looking at my camp on my privately owned property and I've programmed it to take pics 3 times a day every day so I can see what's going on etc. It's also set on motion sensor and frequently takes pics of deer walking right through my camp. When a big storm comes through with high winds I like to make sure no trees have fallen on my cabin etc. The pics are sent to my email and I can check them on my phone. I also have an app where I can change the setting on the camera if I need to. I use rechargeable batteries and the battery life it pretty good. During hunting season I like to move it to one of my feeders that's right down the road on my property. If I see hogs come up I can sneak to within range and pop a couple. It's a pretty cool thing to have and I recommend.
I have been using a covert black ops for the past 2 years. I love it. You just have to be able to pick up service as sometimes service lacks in certain areas.
