Cellular Game Cams

Cellular Game Cams - 08/11/15 03:08 AM

I've wanted one for several years and think I'm going to pull the trigger soon. However, I noticed most are now bundled with a prepaid option as opposed to using your carrier.

Anyone use these bundles? With T-mobile I have grandfathered in unlimited data/text, so I wasn't worried. But, if I have to go with an AT&T bundle I worry about the data use -- especially with false triggers (in the past I would check my camera every few weeks and get about 1000 pics, 700 of which are false triggers)

I'm mainly looking at the Covert, but am open to other brands. Although, it looks like all 2015 models use the prepaid plans.

So, I read the manual hammer

The default file size sent with each message is 60kb. The standard data plan is $15/month at 250mb. Should easily do 4000 messages if needed, so I think I should be ok.

I have the 2014 covert and love it. I have Verizon but it uses att. Go to the att store and buy the SIM card they are cheap. Then I have the $9.99 a month text only plan with 1000 messages. Nice thing is there is no contract and you can turn the plan off in the off season and just a phone call to turn it back on come next season. Setting the camera to a lesser sensitivity helps with bs pics. But you get the pics instantly so if it's wind causing it just text the camera to put it in sleep mode for a bit until weather passes

This was exactly what I was hoping to hear, thank you! up

Looks like the 2015 comes with an AT&T sim card pre-packaged and you can activate it online. They also have a $30 plan for 1gb of data over 90 days, which should be more than enough.

I've had Coverts before and loved their Customer Service. The only thing I didn't like was even with a lesser sensitivity, I'd still get a lot of false triggers, but it was night and day compared to the Stealth Cams I used to have.

I am looking into the Covert right now. HCO makes a cellular one as well. Whichever I use it would have to offer ATT or Verizon. That's good to hear about Coverts customer service. I was looking into HCO but have decided to look elsewhere.

I have only used covert as far as cell cams go. No 4 other friends have them and they work great I would recommend going this route

I used to have a Covert MP6. Loved it. I had one problem where the temp never showed correctly. Called Customer Service and they had a new unit out to me within a few days, no questions asked. Hard to beat that type of service.

Due to that, Covert is pretty much the only brand I've looked at since.

I stopped using a camera because I moved a few hours away from my lease as opposed to being 20 minutes away. Didn't see a point in having one out if I couldn't check it regularly.

Isn't that one of the best reasons to have a cellular cam?

It is. That's why I'm looking at them.
