ELECTRONIC POWDER DISPENSER - 08/19/22 02:59 PM

It looks as if it is time for me to be looking for a new powder dispenser. What do you use , brand & model? I have had the one I have for 6-8 years but I am beginning to think about going back to the old fashion powder drop type. How about some opinions? Thanks Daniel

I have the RCBS Matchmaster. Truth is I wanted the Autotrickler but there was a long wait time on it. Neither one is cheap. The autotrickler is faster but the Matchmaster can throw powder faster than I can seat the bullet and be ready for the next one. Both are very accurate, the autotrickler claims to be more accurate and they probably are. The autotrickler has tons of upgrades available, the Matchmaster is fairly new to the market and I haven’t seen the same support for it yet. I would love to trade the plastic for glass like you can on the autotrickler.

If they were side by side and both available today I would still pick the autotrickler despite the added cost.

I've got the Autotrickler v4 (I've had all the versions) and it's really an impressive piece of equipment. V4 is slower than v3 but it's more accurate in the charges it throws. It's the poorman Prometheus...the issue I had with the Prometheus and why I went with the Autotrickler was it's an easier transition from powder to powder.

wp is correct, the Matchmaster is a good option as is the regular Chargemaster....assuming you don't need the level of accuracy the A&D scale provides.

I wonder is there any difference in accuracy between the LINK version and the next step up , the CHARGEMASTER? I know what the specs say and I suspect underneath the covers there is not a pennys difference. I have read and read but have not seen either mention auto-trickle on the RCBS web site. Thanks Daniel

Autotrickler.com

They aren't associated with RCBS.

I use the Hornady Auto Charge Pro: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1021876610?pid=671023

Works awesome, never had any issues with it. Fast, accurate, and consistent.

RCBS Chargemaster. No issues. I added one of those brass reducing inserts and it cut out any overthrows almost completely. I might get 1-2 out of 50.

I turned a insert for my charge master and run it off a rechargeable usb battery sitting on its own table under a box to keep air off it and it can throw within 3 kernals of varget so long as you don’t shake or bump the tray when you pick up the pan.

If I had the budget I would have a autotrickler

AutoTrickler, had a chargemaster. It’s night and day! AT is insane, and I couldn’t be happier that I invested the money!!

Well, I have made my decision. After talking with LYMAN about mine and the way it was acting, they told me that my GEN 5 was no longer made but the GEN 6 was available. They have made some mods on the Gen 6 that make it an outstanding unit plus since I own a Gen 5 , they will send me a Gen 5 at about an 60% discount complete out the door so I placed my order. Should get it in about a week. Daniel

I've got a Lyman Gen 6. Not fancy, but simple to use and has been very accurate.

That is what Cathy, the scale lady at Lyman told me. Lyman has added some anti-static improvements to the Gen 6. Daniel

For those running a Charge master here is a thread from the past

https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/6192540

Not sure it works on the latest version since mine is older than that thread

RCBS Chargemaster Light. Extremely accurate dispensing of ball and stick powder. I may get 2 bad charges for every 200 rounds. I like the small size and don’t care that it doesn’t store specific loads.

Well, I got my new LYMAN GEN 6 powder dispenser today and was on the phone to LYMAN within 30 minutes after getting it out of the box. Unit WILL NOT CALIBRATE, so after a call to the scale lady at LYMAN , only go find out she will not be back in office till TUESDAY, I am not in a good mood. I did talk with 2 of the CS reps but they were of no nelp in solving the problem.
