7.7 mm Ammo - 05/22/18 12:45 AM

I inherited this gun, Mitsubishi WWII rifle and am trying to find a place that sells 7.7 rounds and confirm the gun has NOT been modified.

If it's a 7.7 Jap, it's an easy round to load for. Norma and Prvi make brass, and it shoots a .311" or .312" bullet. I can load you most any .311"/.312" bullet, if you like. Let me know if I can help. Thanks!

I have a good set of bore mics to measure the bore. That doesn’t help with the chamber but it’s a start if your interested I will ship em to you or meet you somewhere if you’re on the east side of the metro mess.

Mitsubishi did not make WWII rifles . If you post a photo of the markings on the left hand side of the receiver I can tell you who did make it . The groove dia can be as large as .315 , so you need the right bullet to make it work well . Also the chambers are over sized . That combined with the groove will cause misfires with ammo made by someone who does not fully understand how to make it work . Just ask Hornady , they loaded it wrong and their ammo suffered from a lot of problems .

It does not appear to me to have been bored.

Would still need to see the marking if you would like to know who made it .

On the left hand side of the receiver . In line with the serial number .

I have a 7.7mm that my FIL 'brought back' from Japan. Gave it to me a short time before he past. Ammo can be somewhat pricy when found. Some ammo I use made by using 'fire formed' 30-06 cases and .303 Brit load data. Fires just fine in the rifle.

General Guts- can you get pictures of the markings? Mine has markings on top of the receiver in front of the chamber.

The markings on the TOP of the receiver will NOT tell you who made it . All they say is " Type 99 " . .303 Brit load data is way to light for the 7.7x57mm .

The photo is not very clear . If the four circles making the stacked cannon balls is the only mark there , your rifle was made by the Kokura Arsenal .

I'll try again for a better pic. I only have my phone camera.

Thanks
