H4895 - 02/18/18 03:42 AM
So I have been set up for years to reload my mil surp rifles, just never needed to because of all the surplus ammo I have for them.
7.5swiss, 8mm Mauser and 7.62x54r.
I have H4895 and load data for all three cartridges. I was told a while ago that 4895 was an all around good powder for the three.
Mainly just for recreational shooting. not really hunting with them.
Reloading masters..... what y'all think?
No master but H4895 should work great for those cartridges.

X2
It may not be the "best" powder for max velocity or other criteria but certainly will work for stated purpose in all three. It can also be used for reduced recoil loads if you want. Hornady has info on that on their website

If I had to do all of my rifle loading with just one powder, H4895 would be right at the top of the list for consideration. It's not a bad choice for any of the three cartridges you've listed.

H4895 is great for light bullets.

It's doing a fine job with 105's in my 6mmRem too

I use it for everything from 223 to 308. Extremely versatile and isn't one of the trendy powders so it's usually on the shelf.

4895 and 4198 are my go to powders for the majority of the calibers I reload
