New Speer Bullets - 01/20/18 02:25 PM

Speer is trying again after pulling Deepcurls off productions lines due to dangerous pressure curves. I've heard the dimpled heel is what caused the pressure.

I know Gold Dot rifle ammunition has been available in 223 and 6.8 but now they are offering the bonded bullet in popular calibers. They must have pressured formed them to much better shape if you are to believe their BC numbers.

Not on their website yet except for their reload data. Looks promising if they price them like they did Deepcurls.

One glaring omission in the initial offering appears to be the 7mm. I don't see reload data for Gold Dots in that caliber.

The Deep Curls were a special bullet it’ll take a lot to replace it, we’ll have to see how these do ....

Here is a previous thread on getting Speer to consider a replacement to the venerable DC.

Yes! Pig Popper! Thank you for your post. I was beginning to think no one cared about this subject.

I think the Gold Dot is exactly the same as the Fusion/DeepCurl, just a little different shape.

Somebody needs to shoot a .277 cal 90 grain gold dot and .224 cal 90 grain Fusion into some test media.

In my opinion neither completely destroys like the vintage Deep Curl

I have 800 left in 308 cal rifle

They are on the website now. Look like a OTM but they are bonded like the Fusion.

Has anyone tried these on game? How is the accuracy?

From what I read they are not for game.

That 168 gr 308 in my 300 win looks promising. May have to get Chad to load some up for me......

Alliant Power Pro MR - 31.4 grains at 2620 FPS

I don’t care what the bullet was designed for (with the exception of frangibles), hit an animal with that and it won’t like it ...

Energy values using Speers data:

Power Pro MR - 1829 ft lbs

Win748 - 1640 ft lbs

IMR 8208 XBR - 1548 ft lbs

Vit N135 - 1442 ft lbs

OK, I guess the Speer website is piece of crap.

Below is a link to the 308 150 grain rifle round with a BC of .503. It would be nice if they would put actual photos VS stock photos of old bullets.

Speer used to be my favorite bullet company. Today everything they try to do becomes a Charlie Foxtrot.
