Need a good 35 Remington load - 12/02/17 04:35 AM

Just ordered 1k Hornady interlock 200 grain round nose and need a good load recipe for these in my Marlin 336. 20" barrel and would like to get 2100-220 FPS out of the load.

i used to load that same 200 gr bullet in my old 35 Rem Marlin. I used IMR 4064, though the actual load weight is in the barn workshop with my reloading gear. It was, if I remember, not a max load.

Great choice of bullet! I'm a Hodgdon guy, 41.5-grains of H4895, COAL 2.520", compressed (103%), crimp it preferably with Lee FCD, 2260 FPS. This is a 40.0K PSI load so start 10% below and work up to it. If you experience sticky extraction stop.

Haven't shot it in years as I'm a cast bullet shooter. My 35 Rems are Marlin 336D, Remington 600, and Savage 170B. Had a CVA Hunter, H&R, and a Marlin 336SC but sold them. Yeah, I'm a fan of the 35 Rem.

Me too, I have the 336sc and a Remington 141. I'm a huge fan of the 35 and only recently got into reloading. Thanks for information. PM me about your cast bullets I'm interested.

I don't sell my mold designs anymore, haven't for four years now. My design is a TLC359-190-RF, a 190-grain bullet. Lee does have a nice bullet mold now available; the C358-200-RF in both two and six cavity blocks.

In that you are new to reloading, you might look at that Hornady 200-grain Round Nose. It is on sale at MidwayUSA. I do shoot some jacketed bullets and have always liked the Speer HCFP 180-grain.

Has anyone tried Winchester 748 with good results?

Yes, I've used W748 with both the Hornady and Rem 200 grain round nose. It would have been a decade and a half ago. I've used it and BL-C(2) as well. I keep Hodgdon powders on the shelf and at one time or the other have used: BL-C(2), Benchmark, H322, H335, H4198, H4895, & Varget. They all do good but H4895 is the first powder I think of.

My favorite 35 Remington load was 9 grains of Unique and a 110 grain jacketed hollow point, that load will put a smoking hole in a jackrabbit at 100 yards.

4320 powder does real well too in 35 Rem. It seems it's just an easy caliber to load for and not picky. I have a big stockpile of Speer 200gr .357 pistol bullets and they shoot great in my 1966 model 336 too.

For the past 38 years I have loaded my own .35 Rem for a Marlin 336C. The last 500 rounds I loaded with Hornady interlock 200 grain round nose and 40.0-grains of IMR 4895. It has been a great deer killer and accuracy has been excellent.

Hunter Steve, do you know the FPS you're getting with that load? Does the hornady bullet reliably expand 200 yards and closer?
