What's your pet load for 308

What's your pet load for 308 - 09/26/17 07:48 PM

I like a 150 gr Hornady SP flat base over 45 grains IMR 4895 and 165 gr Hornady BTSP over 45.5 grains of Varget. Both shoot at or just under an inch at 100 yds out of my Remington 700 with 26" barrel

I hunted with the 150 last year and they performed well, hogs and deer down within a few yards of the shot. I shot a doe with a 165 and I was impressed with the wound and blood trail. Broadside shot at 120 yds. she went about 15yds left a blood trail that Stevie Wonder could have followed.

168 grain Ballistic Tips with 44.4 grains of Varget works well for me, an inch or less 3 shot group at 300 yards. 2770 fps with 26 inch barrel

150 Barnes TTSX
45.9 Varget
F210
Black Hills brass
TTSX are sensitive to seating depth
Starting off 0.010" off of the lands usually works well.
Barnes suggests 0.050" off the lands

150 Nosler Partition
46.5 Varget
F210
Black Hills brass

Note - this is older Black Hills brass which is comparable to Winchester brass.

For the last year plus, Black Hills has been using RUAG brass, which has smaller internal capacity. Reduce by 2.0 grains and work back up in increments of 0.2 grains. Should end up about 1.0 grain less than the same load with the older brass. The RUAG brass is very nice quality.

For a semi : CCI #34, LC Brass, SMK 168, 39.5 grains IMR 3031 or 41.5 grains IMR 4895. Coal 2.810 to fit the mag.

I recall JG had worked up a sweet load with a 150 or 155 bullet and maybe IMR 8208 ?

For bolt action.
CCI 200
43.5-45.0 gr H-Varget
178 gr A-Max.

Could substitute the ELD line, now.
