For the bore i use gunslick foam and then bore tech eliminator and then coat with break free CLP, OH and only plastic bore brushes. I let the chemical do the work....

I use Ballistol with good results. Are you using things like alcohol, brake cleaner, and carb cleaner because of the lower cost?

I just use a foaming cleaner and patch it out good and a oiled patch if I don't plan to shoot it right away.

Sadly I haven't shot my 270 enough in the past 4 years that it needs cleaning crying

No i use it because spray pressure will blast out grease, oil, grime and dirt in hard to reach areas and it is quick to dry.

Ether starting fluid works good to ,,,, just dont be smoking while using... flame

Just a quick FYI, if you use some form of alcohol to clean firearms, you'll want to use the highest percentage available, usually 99%. The lower percentages contain water to make up the rest of the volume.

And it will work on cosmoline.
