41 Mag loads

41 Mag loads - 04/03/16 07:01 PM

Just picked up a Ruger Balckhawk in 41 mag with a 6" barrel. Looked thru my reloading supplies and found some 250 grn wfgnc that have gas checks already on them and some Speer 200 grn hollow points with the bottom half being copper and an all exposed hollow point.

Anyone have any pet loads they would be willing to share?

Seems 2400 and AA9 are the most commonly used powder for them. Which of course I don't have any of. Did see a few loads on Hodgon's site for Autocomp or maybe it was Titegroup.

I've loaded quite a bit of .41 Mag, but my bullet is the Lyman #410610 (220 grains) so I can't testify to anything on those bullet weights. I agree though, 2400 and AA#9 should be good powders for it. Another one you might try is AA4100, if you can find it. It seems to be the same powder as Ramshot Enforcer but that one seems to be pretty rare also these days. AA4100 has given me outstanding results in .44 Mag shooting the Lyman 429421, and expect it to be outstanding in the .41 also...just haven't gotten around to actually trying it.

If you want to try Titegroup, it may work well but I wouldn't push it too hard. More of a target powder in a magnum revolver load.

For a plinking load, I use 4.5 gr. of Titegroup behind a 200 gr. cast Keith style bullet. Nice practice load in my Taurus Tracker.

If I were looking for full-house loads, I would probably be looking at 2400 or possibly Win 296
