Winchester .308 Silvertip ammo - 01/08/16 04:27 AM

I've been using the 168 grain, but it's been discontinued. Thoughts or feedback on the same ammo in 150 grain?

I've shot the 168s before. A friend of mine has been using the 150s for several years with good success.

I used the 150 gr for years with great results on Texas whitetails. I only moved away from it because it got hard to get at one point.

The optimal bullet for the .308 is the 165 grain. Gives you the best BC, but 150's for medium game "whitetail, pronghorn, muleys" is plenty. I would recommend a well constructed bullet, "Hornady, Nosler, Sierra"

I used the Hornady 165 this year and it made some impressive exit wounds.

I've only tried a few different brands and weights in my 308 and arrived at the Silvertip 168 that you're asking about. I like it, and have a little left, but I'm willing to try another weight. In the end though, I may end up loading my own.

I gave up on factory ammo a long time ago, reload gives you more flexibility, accuracy, and saves you $$. And its just satisfying to take an animal with your own reloads.

How much do you shoot? Why not just buy several boxes now while up its still available?
