38/357 carbide dies - better version

i have an old 3 die 38/357 set from Lee. Dates to the early 80's. Works fine, but the sizing die doesn't resize the case all the way to the cartridge rim, which gives me slightly difficult chamfering of the 357 rounds. I can and have lived with this for years, but surely there's a better carbide sizing die out there. What die will resize to the rim? Thanks.

Deja Vu, twice in one week. I had a problem with a 38/357 Lee sizing die from the same period. It was not properly sizing, a bit similar to yours but I noted the problem a little differently. If you are not kissing the shell holder then maybe a similar issue? I had to send it back, and they replaced it no questions asked.

The problem I'm having is a bit strange. With the die kissing the shellholder 38 cases are sized perfectly. With 357 cases, and with the die kissing the shellholder, the cases are not sized to the case rim. That doesn't make any sense to me at all to my engineering mind, but I fiddle with it and can't solve the problem. Very strange. Sounds like I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what.

But, since the die works fine with 38 cases, I'll just buy another die specifically for 357, or another set of dies.

You can gain a few thousandths by rubbing the shell holder on a sharpening stone.

As hovercat said; you need to mill/polish a few thousands off the face of the shellholder. This will allow the die to size more of the case.

If you buy a new die, you might have the same problem. It's all about the manufacturing tolerances that the die maker uses. I would start with modifying the shellholder first before buying a new die.
