Shooting Subsonic Ammo

Shooting Subsonic Ammo - 12/16/15 12:50 AM

Got a question for my forum friends. I recently purchased a Daniel Defense 300AAC Blackout SBR with a Silencerco Omega 7.62 suppressor.

Shooting with a Leupold VX-R 1.25-4x scope. It is dialed in at 100 yards. Perfect bullseye everytime when shooting supersonic hunting rounds (115grain or 120 grain. When I shoot subsonic (220grain) ammo at 100 yards, it is shooting about 10" low and about 4" right every time.

Anyone know what might be going on? I'd like to be able to shoot subsonic accurately at the range, but since it is sighted in perfect for my hunting rounds, I really do not want to mess with the scope. Any suggestions?

I can't believe it's not shooting lowere than that. I use a scope that I can dial in the two different loads.

I'd be happy if I were u. 10" low with subsonic isn't bad. You'll just have to figure out where to hold to hit zero.

If it were me i would zero my turrets with supersonic ammo and then take a white piece of tape or nail polish and line it up with 10moa and 4moa on your windage.think of it as 2 selector swithes your turning them to supersonic or subsonic.that way you will have two 100 yard zeroes.if your zero changes take tape off or remove nail polish and repeat.

Yes, the subsonic ammo is going about 1/3 the speed of the supersonic round. Therefore it drops a lot more. The point of impact shift is a repeatable shift, so learn how to correct for it, and you will be on target. I would also learn the trajectory of the subsonic rounds.

I also make/sell an SBR load that runs 1040 fps in the 11" barrels. When you run normal subsonic ammo designed for a 16" barrel, the SBR's lose about 100-150 fps on an already slow round. This SBR load gets your speeds up for more energy on target.
