H4198 Powder (Odor)

H4198 Powder (Odor) - 11/22/15 02:13 AM

I picked up some H4198 to work with.

It has a very obvious "smell" to it.

It isn't the knock you over ammonia smell like a bad powder has.

I have not messed with a bunch of different powders.
The ones I have used so far do not have an odor like this.

Is this normal?

I have loaded about 20 test rounds with it so far.
All shot well and Chrono'd consistently.

Does anyone else here use H4198?
Does this sound normal?

Thanks.

i use it all the time in my .444 marlin loads.
i've used in 30/30 jfg, but there are others
better suited for it.
if you're talking about a solvent, alcohol,
acetone type odor, it's ok.
you said it shot well and consistent so
i'd say ok, use it

I'd call it a solvent type of smell.

I didn't think it was an issue, but wanted to get some feedback / advise.

Thank you.

Usually the odor is ether

If not an ether smell, then you have to consider the age of the can and storage location.

Thanks. That is good point.
I did forget to mention that it is a new bottle I got from Dan a couple of weeks ago.
I keep all my powder in the house.
