6.5 Creedmoor - Load Update - 11/19/15 05:54 PM
I finally caught the time and weather (sort of...) to get back on load development for my new-to-me Creedmoor. My original development notes are here:
Previous Post
Thanks to all for the suggestions - I loaded up a batch of 44.1 and 44.4 grains to try. The wind was at 10:30 around 5-10 MPH when I tried the 44.1. Pretty decent group, average velocity of 28??, ES of 27, SD of 13 (I think) after 4 rounds.
I then had to help my FIL load the wheat drill. By the time we got done, winds were gusty at 10-20 MPH. The 4-shot 44.4 group was opened up by a "flyer" from just under 3/8" CTC to just over 1/2" CTC. Primers were a little flatter, but no sticky bolt or ejector swipes. Chrono was reading all over the place, but my dinky tripod had it bouncing and twisting all over the place... so I am not putting much stock into the readings.
I will load up a batch of the 44.4 grains and stretch it out a little to find actual trajectory. I am blown away at the lack of recoil that this round has - truly comparable to a 243. This may very well be the perfect round for Texas hunting for the recoil-sensitive shooter. Thanks again for all of the feedback.
