FMJ Ammo

FMJ Ammo - 05/29/15 08:20 PM

I was talking to this gentleman about FMJ ammo (7.62X39) and he told me that if you would alter the bullet by removing the point and making it a blunt tip it would increase the amount of damage done to a feral hog. That is all I am worried about.

Thanks in advance.

This sounds like someone has too much time on their hands to dream up ways to operate operationally.

Somewhere in my shop I have a jig I used to grind the tip off of 7.62x39 FMJ.
Then it went into the drill press for a 1/16" hole 1/8" deep.
Killed lots of pigs using that round in my SKS but as ranges got longer, I switched with a 6.8x43 in AR platform because you can get optics to hold zero on that....
It was pretty nasty on pigs and reasonably accurate under 100 yards.

This was back when Monarch was 2.09/20 at Academy so it will give you an idea how long ago that was...LOL!

Yes sir, I had one made up for 7.62 x 51 FMJ FNM surplus ammo. I killed several deer and pigs with it. It shot well out of my M1A.
Maybe it didn't work, but they all went down quickly.
