280 recipe

Those that reload for the 280. Give me your best recipe if you don't mind. I'm picking up my new mountain rifle from the FFL Saturday.

Remington 700 Mountain
22" light contour barrel
1:9.25 twist

You might PM HTDUCK, I think he has some 280 loads.

Nosler 150-grain Partition
58.5 grains H4831SC

yields 2925 fps average
excellent accuracy

My dad shoots a Rem 700 Mtn Rifle in 280 Rem. I load for it and it likes 150 grain partitions over H4831

I have a 7mm mauser and it has a slightly smaller case capacity.

On a light weight mountain rifle the 150 will have heavey recoil.

My cz 550 has a 1/8.66 twist which will stabilize 120 grain bullets.

The original mausers had 1/12 to 1/14 which will stabilize a 175 grain bullet.

Your gun should stabilize a 130 to 140 grain, I would try a 4350 speed powder witch shoots good I my rifle

For the most accuracy you need to match the lead to the twist rate first.

Had some Horizontal stringing so going to try a couple higher charges and lower charges per recommendations by forum members.

140 gr Nosler Accubonds in front of 56 grs of H4831SC

All I could find was H4831, no SC. Still debating on bullet

If you want to sway towards the heavy side 154 gr SST's shoot great out of my 280 and hit like a hammer. I also load em on top of 4831.

I use N560 with 168gr Berger's with good results.
I have had success with H4831 as well all shoot well but the 560 load has highest velocities.
May try some 4000MR just for grins as I have had success with it other cartridges and its more temp stable than N560. The 2930 fps with a 168gr maybe hard to beat.

Flat shooting, light recoil load...great for deer:

120gr Nosler Ballistic Tip (very tough bullet)
easy to get over 3100fps with IMR4350.

Might wanna review the things you've read. Looks to me like you've got things bass ackwards.
