New Tipped Sierras 175gr - 02/27/15 01:44 AM

They look quite promising. First photo of first 3 shots with Magneto attached

Then I removed and since I had shot a prior group knew it would shoot lower instead of aiming at the red diamond I aimed at the 3 shot hole and got lucky with 2 more.

Looks like they are behaving exactly like a Hornady A-max.

I need to contact Sierra, same as I did Hornady asking for a 7mm A-max 175 gr, or heavier.

Nearly a 10% increase over the old SMK.

Re: New Tipped Sierras 175gr - 02/27/15 03:12 AM

Not wanting to cherry pick the best here is the other target.
This target has bullets seated at the lands OAL of 2.910
I shot 3 then installed the Magneto-Speed and notice they jumped higher with the chrono installed which seemed counter intuitive but it is what it is.
My 6 mm Creedmoor did the same. Just not as much higher POI.

The reason I chose to seat the bullets down to 2.875 and try it there is to fit in a AIC Magazine as I want to shoot the same load in my Colt 2012. It seems to like them too.
Here is the first target. Not sure why the chrono attached group was two separate groups probably just me.

Here is the rifle ..well except my Suppressor broke so I am back to shooting LOUDLY a.

FiremanJG may notice something about this gun that is unusual.

Re: New Tipped Sierras 175gr - 02/27/15 03:32 AM

Only two things that would be unusual for me.

1. Thumbhole stock
2. Made out of lumber

You were sorta close.... Left-Handed thumbhole stock on a righthanded action is what I was referring to.

I saw that immediately. Looks like it's shooting good.

What was your speed on the 42.0 grains of 8208.

It was a GemTech HVT QD(IIRC) and what happened was after a while the QD part started coming loose due to jumping the threads.

Gemtech is making it right... since they had to destroy my Suppressor they are paying for a new stamp and upgrading me from Stainless to the newer Ti model. Still very disappointing to miss this whole hunting season without it.

Yes--thank you. That velocity is promising out of a 20" barrel! 6.5cal, watch your back, the .308 has its second wind!
