.280 Ackley

I am wanting to work up some loads for my .280 ackley Using the 150gr TTSX. My initial search isn't turning up much load data for that particular bullet. I would prefer to run H4831SC since I already have it. Any help would be appreciated.

Can you find any data for a load with anything the same bullet weight?

Contact barnes, they will help. Other than that you might use nosler data for the e tip since it's also a mono bullet.

I wasn't sure if you could use the same load data for like weight similar bullets or it had to be the exact bullet. This is my first rodeo.

it will be real close. The tipped bullet TTSX is a little longer so if seating to the depth on the Hodgdon page you will be at a little higher pressure with the TTSX but start at the starting load and workup from there and you will be fine. With the longer bullet you might reach max safe load a little sooner

how far off the lands would be a good starting point?

Also, all my brasd is Nosler once fired. I do not have a case trimmer yet. Do I need to be concerned with trimming the cases after just one firing? I had heard the ackley improved cartridges needed very little trimming due to their design, but again,this is my first shot at hand loading. I just tumbled, full length sized and knocked the burrs off the neck... Anything else I need to do before charging and seating?

How far off the lands? The Barnes bullets are not as critical as some. I would check seating depth also check magazine length for reliable functioning, you do not want to workup a load that makes your rifle a single shot or does not function reliably through the mag.
3.330 is the SAAMI max listed length and should work through any mag, might check that length for functioning through your gun. .02 is a good place to start off the lands IMO if that will cycle well.

Triming brass most of the time will not be required after one firing but use a set of calipers and check length against trim length in the manual.

Other than checking case length sounds like you are ready to finishing up prime/charge/seat bullet.

A good thing about Nosler brass, case prep is easy since they have uniform primer pockets and flash holes are already deburred.

I have had best luck with 140 ABs and IMR4831
I tried some heaviers and different powders and never got where I wanted
my load with the 140 ABs was 59g, 1 under max, my velocity is 3060
A little short of what I would like but one hole accurate and deadly

I would probably start with the 150 Etip data at the bottom and work up

Yes I bought the TGR.It shoots great with the factory ammo loaded with 140ABs. I wanted to shoot a heavier bullet that wasn't so hard to find. If I don't have any luck with the TTSX I will order fall back on the 140 ABs. I was impressed with the accubonds on deer. Shot 4 with them this year and never had one get more than 20yds or so off the sendero.

Could try a 150/160 grain partition
