Bad profile for a lever action?

Bad profile for a lever action? - 11/22/14 01:01 PM

I bought these for the .454 but was considering loading some in 45 colt for the 92 lever action. They are 395 grain CPB. What's the odds of this profile chambering in the 92 action? They will be loaded pretty mild in the colt to shoot in my vaquero.

I also have the .360 grain for the same purpose. I'm more hopeful with these.

There's only one way to find out, but I'd plan on them not working, so have a plan b available, like shooting them in your pistol. Those are awfully heavy bullets in a .45 Colt; you know they're probably designed for the .454 or the .460, right?

Bet they mic out to tight for bore on vaquero. Those for handgun should be around .452?

I bought them to shoot in the 454 to start with and will. The .454 Casull shoots .452" bullets according to all data I can find. The bullets above are both .452".

Definitely heavy in the 45 colt but not tight bore.

They might surprise you, load one up and find out then let us know.

I hope they do. I have found loads from Hodgdon for both bullets in both calibers. I will be sure to keep the Colt loads to new vaquero specs to be on the safe side if they don't fit the lever.
