Reloading manual

I have a Sierra reloading manual that is about 20 + years old it is the 3rd edition just getting back into reloading how often should you update these manuals. And if I need to update what's the best out there for 223 and 308 hunting rounds. Thanks

No rule of thumb I could recite, but I'd say you ARE due a new manual. Lots of new powders are available. I prefer the Lyman manuals because they use a variety of bullets and lots of different powders.

What about the Lee manual? Noticed it was rated higher than he Lyman, and I can get it delivered off abay for about $20

Hodgdon has reloading data online for free.
The current Sierra, Nosler, and Hornady manuals are good.
The Barnes manual is good also, but really more specific to their bullets.
Of course, all are just general guidelines, and each rifle and load combo will be unique.
Make sure to know the signs of excessive pressure.

I have the first Lee manual and it's got a LOT of data on a LOT of components. Not a bad manual, but the front of the book---the "how-to" section---seems to be a very long infomercial on Lee products. Kind of irritating IMO.

Nothing wrong with the Lee Manual except for lots of info about the Lee products included in the How To section where the Lyman is more Meat and Taters description. The Lee manual should be a read though for anyone casting their bullets, the chapters on that and pressures is worth the price IMO.

There is more data in the Lee manual than any of the others, but it is data available online for free from the powder manufactures and the powder manufactures data is more up to date. Lee got permission to use their data and added a little info for cc of powder and orginized the data highest to lowest velocity for each combination

For instruction I like the Lyman manual and ABCs of Reloading. Data I usually head to the powder manufacture sites.
