? Black Powder Bullet Ques?

I've got a bunch of 200 & 250 grain bullets rolling around loose in my BP shooting box. They all look & feel the same to me. Is there an easy way to tell which is which without a scale?

Shooting with two Pyrodex pellets, how much trajectory difference is there at 50 yards between a 200 grain vs 250 grain .50cal sabot bullet?

The 250's should be longer than the 200's.

This is NOT hard. If they are the same brand, stand them on their bases side by side...bases will be the same (50 cal) dimension and the 250 grs will look bigger (longer). It should be visible.

Not an expert... The trajectory of the mini & maxi at 50yrds shouldn't be noticable... Edit: Error on my part ... trajectory will change over distance...

I assume the band is Thompson shockwave for the bullets as they are one of the few companies that makes both 200gr and 250gr sabot bullets.

According to the Nikon Ballistics calculator using a 100gr charge :
- a 200 gr bullet sighted in for 50 yrds will be 1.6" low at 100 yds
- a 250 gr bullet sighted in for 50 yards will be 2.1" low at 100 yds

So difference in the point of impact are minimal at ranges up to 100 yards

What do I know? If it aint a lead ball I wouldn't know what to do with it.

If you have a small food scale 200 grams is just over 7 oz while 250 grams is just under 9 oz. But as TonyinVA provided from the Nikon Spot-On calculator at 100 yrds you are only looking at .5 inches difference. I would say at 50yrds the diff would be smaller and the two pyrodex pellets were 50 grams each for 100 gram load total.

Bassman....a 250gr bullet is NOT 9 oz...16 oz is a pound......a 250gr bullet is NOT a half pound.

You are thinking "grams" ...bullets are in "grains"

1 Ounce = 437.5 Grains

1 Ounce = 28.3495231 Grams

Yep, I messed that one up. Haven't seen to many half pound bullets...

my have a 2 muzzle loaders. and one is set for a lighter round then the other when i get them mixed up i weight them out you can get a cheap reloading scale i think i paid $9 for mine and i use it a lot when i buy a pack of rounds i weigh each one the ones that are more then a few grains off get sent back to the company they normally have not issue with sending me replacements I use the night hallow point sabot rounds there not the best in the world but when you live on a fixed income from the va you get what works and your comfortable with

I'm assuming that these are .427 bullets for your .50 cal BP. I shoot both those weights of bullets in my sabots too. They require different charges to hit same point of impact. Sort them and separate them to use with the load that compliments their mass.
