My sons first deer! - 11/13/16 02:51 AM
This weekend I had the opportunity to take my son on his first deer hunt. I bought him a crossbow for Christmas last year and we have both been practicing for this season. He's put in the time and work to get prepared and it paid off today!! My buddy invited us down to his ranch to hunt doe and cull bucks. We sat last night and only saw a young spike and another small buck we couldn't really get a good look at. We went back to the same stand this morning and we're covered with deer before the sun even came up. He picked out a big bodied 8 point he wanted to shoot but it would never get in range. A few minutes later a 7 point walked out and ate at the feeder just out of range for about 30 minutes. He spooked off twice but the last time he came back gave him a good quartering away shot at 30 yards. I gave him the go ahead to shoot and he let it fly!! He hit him a little far back but had a complete pass through. We let him sit for 30 minutes and tracked him about 100 yards. His reaction was priceless and a memory that I will take to my grave!! What an awesome weekend!
