Mechanical Broadheads - 09/22/16 04:41 AM

This will be my first year to bow hunt, and I have heard some people say that in order for mechanical broadheads to deploy correctly that you should be shooting a certain draw weight, but then again I've also heard people say that that is a bunch of nonsense. What experienced have y'all had with mechanicals and certain draw weights? I just wanna make sure that my bow could deploy them before going and purchasing some. Thanks in advance!

If you are shooting under 50 lbs I would say you should stick with a two blade mechanical. Rage has a head specific for lower poundage set ups. That said it is very crucial you have your bow well tuned to maximize you kinetic energy and penetration.

The low-energy Rage 2-blade works well. I've used them @ 52-56lb with a 26" draw and they worked fine. Now I shoot standard Rage 2-blade at 60lb and 28" and that works great.

When I was under 50lb, I used 85gr Thunderhead broadheads by NAP. Great fixed blade.
