Cross bow

Thinking about getting a cross bow any advice

Keep your thumb low on the forearm grip.

Ha. That's not an issue on my mission...
Just get the best you can afford and enjoy. They will all get the job done

Hold/shoot as many as possible. They are all different feel and one or two will fit you better than the others. Knowing what type hunting you plan to do would help, as well as budget.

Get Excalibur

Buy an Excalibur. I have a Axiom SMF and love it. So easy to tune and work on. The recurve limb design (no cams) is so easy to change out or adjust a string - in the field - in just a few minutes - with a stringer you can carry in your pocket. You can't do that with one of the compound design bows. It's fast, and more than adequate to get the job done.

You can change strings on a compound bow without a press in the field, if you own a Mission crossbow. All the mission MXB line can change out strings without a press in a matter of minutes. The MXB line is also adjustable on the pull weight.
Unlike the other guys, I can't tell you what you should get but I would look at Ten Point, Mission and Excalibur.
The one thing the guys with the recurve limbs fail to mention about the recurve, is how loud they are. They sound like a cannon going off compared to an MXB.
I own an MXB360 but I wouldn't mind any of the above brands.
Another thing to consider is Speed and type of bolts you will be using. Some of the higher speed bows will destroy plastic knocks. I use aluminum knocks on all my bolts.
I also like the all aluminum design of all the MXB Bows vs the plastic of some of the others. To each his own.
After tons of research and a little help from friends, I came to my decision.
Head to an archery shop and check out the Bows. It will be fun and you can learn quite a bit.

My Excalibur, which I just sold five minutes ago, was quite. Matrix 380, shooting 342 fps. Heavy arrow equals quite.

I went through the process of crossbow shopping back in the spring. Actually shooting the crossbows is a biggie, not just reading reviews. And go through the entire routine, use the cocking string, load it, shoot it, a few times. We discovered that my wife could not pull some of the bows and she refused to get a crank assist.
We ended up with a Mission 360. Person preference due to how it was made, size, quietness, usability for my wife, and a local repair shop.

I really like my Excalibur Matrix 380. It is probably a little loud but at that speed it's not going to matter inside 30 yards. Very few moving parts and a history of reliability. If width is a problem they now have a Micro version. I hear good things about Mission too.

There are several good websites with message boards devoted strictly to crossbows that have lots of information. Look at as many as possible and pick the one you like best.

I had my decision narrowed to the Mission 360 or Dagger models crossbow and the Excalibur Micro 335. I chose the Micro 335. Hands down best crossbow I've ever owned!

I've run the price range gamut in my hunting career this far and I've come to the realization that you don't have to spend big money for a desired result. I actually have a Hoyt posted because I'm settling back into less expensive but more challenging traditional but I'm dabbling into crossbows a bit as well. I have a inexpensive Barnet recurve model that is comfortable and shoots great. What I like about it is that it gives me the chance to see if crossbows are my thing without having to be deeply invested. I am actually enjoying my time on the range and will probably upgrade next year and keep this one as a back-up or a loaner or something.

I know nothing about cross bow but was a big bow hunter at one time and was thinking go bowes as well i have hear that some are quite loud can you buy like a quitting set up like you can a bow and limb savers. my main questions is with the pound of bows 150b and 250 lbs nd the arrows/bolts moving at speed of 340-360ftps how far can you the shoot with my bow is was only 65lbs but i was comfortable hunting at 40 yrs even though i never shot over 30yrds in the field i wass thinking with the speed of these things in my mined i think they might be able to go 60-70yrards comfortable or am i over thinking that I had a friend in hight school who use to shot is compound bow at 60-70 yard and they shot group was just as tight as he was at 20 yards I am really thingking of getting one for next bow season ever were i lived before they were band so never looked in to them. i have been reading a lot of post and if i get one it will be from sports menguid.com they seem to have fair prices or from crags list
