broadhead tuning help?

Hi all-

The last two years I shot muzzy trocars and they flew pretty much like my field points with only minor adjustments needed, if any.

This year, same bow, same arrows, same exact BHs as last year, they are spinning off all kinds of directions, but mostly low and or low and to the left, like 6 inches off.

Do i need to line up the blades with the fletching? If they don't line up when the broadheads are tight, can I turn the ferrule until they do?

I don't have any business taking a shot right now at a deer, I can't be sure enough where they will fly. Advice appreciated...

If the same arrows and broadheads shot good last year but are not this year, suspect something has changed on the bow. Rest or dloop may have moved a little, try paper tune check or walkback check for tuning. Cable stretch can get you a little out of time which can also cause it.

Yeah, I've had this bow 3 yrs now, it might be time for some tuning and maintenance.

I would suspect a cable or string problem. Could have some separating under the serving where it's not visible. I've seen that same issue on a brand new bow during a 3D competition. One reason I change factory stock strings.

definately sounds like a tuning issue. i would measure your bow to see if it matches the factory specs. if your stringis 3 years old, i would look into replacing it and the cables.
strings prolly stretched some and throwing off the timing of your bow.
the idea of lining up your fletching with your blades is an old wives tale. ive never lined up blades with fletching and my bh hit with fp out to 6o yds.

You are so right, when the first compounds came out in 1967 I was in Viet Nam but as soon as I got home I bought my first compound it was used and I believe I paid $15.00 for it. The big hype was that you HAD to align the vanes with your broad heads! There has been lots of studies and research on the subject and it is conclusive that it makes absolutely no difference however; there are some that are bound to the wives tale which goes to what I say "most people don't know because they are taught by those that don't know."

OP here. this is kinda adding up too, since I started practicing again this summer it's been really inconsistent. I thought it was most likely me, bad form or something. It still might be me, but sounds like I need to get the maintenance done no matter what. At least that would rule out the bow as being an issue.

How does it shoot with field points now?

I've never bothered lining up my broad heads to the fletching. How do you line up or tune a two blade broadhead?

String stretch can throw out your cam timing and your tiller. That may be enough to cause this.

Ok took my bow to archery country for a tune and the groups are super tight right out of the gate. I am amazed at the difference. That was with field points though, tomorrow I'll try the broadheads. Am feeling hopeful.

If they knew what they were doing you should be on or very close.

Il looking into ramcat bh and wondering if you have to tune and set um the same way with blazers and blades lining up or not bc of blades's offset placment on the bh

don't think iv ever lined up my BH.. iv had my drop rest not lock down fully and it started popping up after it dropped and tapping the arrow.. started noticing the arrow dog trailing and small marks on the fletching

No. ensure you have a good paper tune with field point and you should be good. My ramcats fly true to my field points, never paid attention to the vane to blade placement.

No, just test them on a target and make sure they are hitting the same as your fieldpoints.
