Toxic vs. fixed 3 blade vs. retractable blade broadheads

So I wanted to test all three of these arrows to get an idea of what would do the most damage. To test them we decided to shoot through the hide of a wild boar hog right where the hard plate is. We shot each one from 30 yds away. I like the way the toxic performed. The fixed 3 blade wasn't bad either but I didn't like the way the retactable blade performed. Maybe the ones with 3 or 4 blades would have been better though. Here is the video so yall can see how they did for yourselves. What types of broadheads to yall like to use?

Cool test video sir. I'd still much rather sharpen a fixed BH all day long over the toxic but that hole was no joke! Maybe worth the $ on buying new if needed.

i think the toxic bh is a good bh. ive used them a few times and had decent results. i prolly know of a dozen animals that have been shot with them. only prob i have with them is on angled shots the bh has a chance to deflect because the blade will hit before the point can get a bite. ive had it happen twice. id rather stick with a slick trick or helix or even my rage bh.

Thanks Bullfrog. Thats a good point ancuegar. I never thought about how they would fair at an angle shot. I'll have to run some test on that. I've heard good things about the slick trick too.

I've used them on deer with good results, blew through the offside rib. They do make a massive hole.

Very interesting. I would try the Toxic, but I've been shooting Slick Tricks for years and they are hard to beat.

this is a very cool looking broadhead....what i would be interested in is how much damage it does to the meat. One of the reasons i decided to take up bow hunting is to try and reduce the amount of meat that was damaged or unusable after hunting with a rifle. From the reviews i have read, they compare the hole to that of a 12 gauge slug, so i guess my question is, does it save meat or not?

If you hit a deer with a broadhead it's the same as cutting a deer with a knife, I don't think an inch or so would matter, if you catch guts via a slug or a broadhead the meat is going to suffer a bit. I wouldn't worry about size of hole, it's not a bullet, it's not going to expand on impact and ruin much meat, just my 2 cents

I got some of the toxic yesterday. I shot a large large pig w a retractable and it didn't do the job, I lost the pig. Went out today and saw deer but no pigs.

The only real issue Ive ever had with the thunder head or muzzy style broad heads is that they will glance off if they hit anything at all before the target. Even a blade of tall grass. So if you hunt around a lot of thick stuff you may have problems. I hunt off of the ground, so it happens more often. One time I was shooting through a cattle panel at a turkey. I was hiding behind the fence and a railroad timber for a fence post. I snuck up on the big gobbler and turned him towards me with a call. He had me jammed up with little to hide behind. I drew back and shot through the square panel. The turkey just stood there. My broad head barely grazed the bottom piece of fence and went to the moon. I was so close to the fence that I didn't compensate for the arrow being lower than my pins. I tried to get another arrow out and he hauled [censored]. I killed him that evening with a shotgun in the same area. Ive never used mechanicals. I was always a little worried about them. Plus I like to sharpen my own broad heads. Cut on contact!
