How long are broadheads good for?

How long are broadheads good for? - 12/17/14 04:16 PM

I've always wondered how long I should keep my broadheads. Do they get dull from not being used for a period of time? I've heard they may rust but not sure if that's true... Anyone have any advice?

As long as they stay sharp, I don't know why they would have an expiration date. It would be rare to have them rust in the package even if they're years old. I always run them over a sharpener once or twice just to ensure they're as sharp as possible once I open the package, but that's just how I like to do it.

Once out of the package and maybe they've been used once or twice, just sharpen and lightly lubricate with an oil if you want to, and you're good to go for however long.

I've got some that are over 10-years old, and I've shot several deer/pigs with them and just clean them up and resharpen. These are not the replaceable blade type.

Yep. Unless you've sharpened them to the point where you've removed a significant amount of weight, and they don't fly well, I don't think you'd ever need to get rid of them.

I think they expire 4 months from your purchase date.

Depending on the head and quiver they can dull over time from putting them in and taking them out of the foam on a quiver but other than that, keep the rust off and they should be fine for as long as you care to shoot them.
