NEW to bow hunting - Need advice

I have always wanted to get into bow hunting, and my wife just told me she wants to get into it too WOOT! So I have permission to buy our first bow... But there is a catch... WE will share one until we both determine we like it (I know I will).

This is the bow I am looking at and for this reason...

It is strong enough to use in the field at 60 lbs max, but weak enough to where I can set it at a good weight for her to use and still be strong enough (around 50lbs).

Once she is hooked I will buy myself a better / long term option.

My question is this. It has a 21" to 27" draw length, so for both of us I am thinking a 25" draw length will be a good setting for both of us to use.

What length arrows do I buy for that draw length?

Sounds like a bad idea, unless both of you have the same draw length. Either it will be too long for her to use or too short for you to shoot accurately. I would suggest trying to find each of you a decent used bow. If you haven't shot much in the past, it is unlikely that you would be able to get in enough practice to effectively hunt this season anyway. If both of you have a bow that is tuned for you, you will have a much higher chance of success. I hope this helps. If you are within 1" of draw length of each other it may work to have one bow, but I find that to be unlikely at best.

I agree with Tactical...most husband and wife would not be shooting the same bow and if they were, they would not be shooting it correctly. Even if ya'll tried to use the same bow, the anchor point will be different and the sites would have to be adjusted for each shooter.

Would be tough IMO to get everything set up to shoot in the field this season and be competent enough to shoot at a deer. If you are set on just getting one bow, buy it for her and set it up for her. You should be able to adjust enough to hit the target by playing with the anchor point. Let her get into it and let that become HER bow. Then go get you another one.

Yeah, no way this idea works. Maybe try a crossbow or just save your money until you are ready to do it right.

Good advice. I will just have to buy myself a better bow - gee what a shame!

Also I did not plan on hunting this season anyway with it. I will do some hog hunting in the spring but that's about it until next season.

In addition to everything else that's been said. My general impression is that there is a reason the bow is this "inexpensive". You could get a good used bow that is a couple of years old that would be far better than this one. In fact you could get a good used bow for both of you to start that would be a huge step up from the Barnett at Walmart and something you could shoot for years plus get serviced at any pro shop. Good luck and enjoy the sport it is a great one for families to enjoy together.

I found a s PSE Firestorm Lite Compound Bow package with 6 arrows, hunting heads, trigger, and case for 200.. Thinking this may be a better option to start with..

Thoughts?

If it can be adjusted to fit either of you, I'd say go for it.
