Varmint BH's

I got some little varmint tips for my bow. The kind with the little wire hooks all around a solid metal head. Are these things supposed to penetrate? The squirrel I shot had a quarter sized hole in its chest. I just thought they would impact a little. I had heck getting my arrow back out of him. What do y'all think? I've got a video but it's kinda messed up. Lol
