Almost any reputable mechanical OR fixed blade will do fine. I shoot both Slick Trick and Rage 2 blades.

I will always shoot a fixed blade. Currently shooting 100 grian t-locks, next set will be G-5 Montecs.

I'm a Montec fan. I just go 3 more today. I got them cheap. I'm probably going to try the NAP Hellrazors. Basically the same thing but with a little wider cutting diameter.

Re: Arrows and Broadheads - 11/13/14 07:44 PM

There are plenty of good arrows on the market today: Easton, Beeman (owned by Easton), Carbon Express etc.
All of them make arrows that are good quality but you definitely get what you pay for in terms of their various tolerances with regard to straightness, and weight per inch. So go with the best arrow you can afford with whichever brand you select. A lighter arrow (grains per inch) will be a little faster and will therefore be a but more forgiving with yardage estimation during a shot but if your furthest shot is 20-25 yds that really won't make a big difference and if your just starting out you really probably don't want to take a shot further than that anyway. A heavier arrow will absorb more energy from your bow so it will be a quieter than a lighter arrow but also a little slower.
There are a lot of variables involved. I'd recommend going to a good pro shop and get them to help you make a good selection for your bow. They will cut them to fit you and your setup. You don't need to shoot 130.00 per dozen arrows to get good results but I wouldn't go with the cheap ones either since that is when the tolerances can get pretty broad and that is when you can have a problem shooting fixed blade broadheads. good luck

I'll add gold tips to the list. I like the expedition hunters or XT hunters. I shoot the expeditions. W

Beman ICS arrows work great. No need to spend more than you have to on arrows

Carbon express makes a solid arrow that is affordable, also slick trick makes a good BH at a affordable price just my .02

I'm using Easton Bowfires. They're a little expensive around 70-80 for half dozen but they make for some tight groups. First time out shooting I ripped 3 fletchings. That also taught me I needed to start using different dots.

+1 on the Beman ICS arrows. Good selection of weights and tolerances for a very fair price. The mechanical vs fixed blade debate has raged on me threads than probably any other bow hunting topic. I have used and been successful with both. I currently shoot Slick Tricks because they tune well and are tough, they also penetrate like a champ. One advantage to mechanicals is that they generally tune very easily and will usually shoot the same point of impact as a same weight field point. I killed 20+ deer with trophy ridge Meatseekers without a lost animal.
