How do you know what GPI to shoot?
Am I correct in thinking length is "as short as the broadhead will clear the rest"?

I am currently shooting 70lb. 29" draw shooting about 285fps.
I am shooting Beman ICS hunters. I can see a drop at 40 yards.

I just shot my cousins Carbon Express Maxima 250's and they were WAY faster and flatter. So I am thinking about buying some or getting the hunters.

I am not sure if it is the carbon, the diameter, or the weight that made such a drastic difference.

How do you determine arrow weight?

I just bought some Mayhem's for my #70 bow, 29" draw and the book called for the 350's, not sure if they are the same as the Maxima's. I believe the 250's would be "under-spined" and not shoot that well.

Lighter arrows do exist though. I also got some Easton Flatliner's. Way lighter and faster than the Mahem 350's, if that's what you are looking for.


Ask someone at the archery proshop before you get the 250's for your set up.

From what I can tell the Easton Flatliners are the lightest arrow I can find in a 340 or 350 spine. They may exist but I havent found them. I shoot the Flatliners out of my XForce and love them. They tune like a dream out of my bow and have worked flawlessly. My setup loves them. Only problem I have found with them is I tend to break them more than other arrows I have shot in the past. But when I can walk up to my paper tuner and every shot is a perfect bullet hole I can overlook that.

GPI is a personal preference...Victory HV 350's are 6.4 compared to flatliners at 8.2 and bemans ICS at 9.3 and I think Piledriver hunters go to 13.6. If speed is what you are looking for go for one of the lighter arrows but you will get lot's of varying opinions on that...

It depends on what you are doing with the arrow. If you are hunting you will prolly not want the lightest arrow you can get. If you do you are going to have very poor kinetic energy. But it could help you on distances if you are shooting unmarked tournaments. REALLY depends on what you are going to use it for. Also most bow manufacturers will void your warranty if you are shooting anything less than 5gr per pound.

I'm not going to get into the Kinetic Energy discussion. It gets ugly fast and I don't believe in the KE Theory for deer and pigs.

But if you want super light weight arrows looks HCA Speed Pro Max in either 5.5 gpi or 6.2 gpi. I have hunted bith both and never had any issues.

Last year I shot Carbon Tech Cheetah arrows. They are light and fast as well.

I am intersted in the Easton Flatliners in 340 Spine. I am currently shooting the Beman at 28", 9.3 with 340 spine, and the Flatliners mentioned are 8.2 with 340 spine.

I am also planning on dropping 1" to a 27" arrow. 27" would still allow 1" past rest (but it is on top of risor, this is ok right?) Arrow currently sits at end of risor with no tip.

This would take off 39 gr from what I am currently shooting (if my calculations are correct).

The purpose is speed, but I hunt more than I shoot. I just need new arrows anyway and figure I will shoot a little flatter with a little less KE.

Correct me or answer anything you like, advise is welcome, I bought it set up at hunters friend and havn't changed a thing, so im a rookie at tinkering)

This is fine just watch out for the fingers once broadheads are on...

losing 39 grains will probably gain you approx 10-14fps...depending on the bow

With your setup, you can drop to the Flatliner 400 = 7.4 gr per inch and get even more fps.
