Weatherby Model 307Thoughts? There are several unique ideas and the $750 action price is attractive, so is the 7.5 twist 243

A company like Weatherby needed their own action to compliment the Mark V. The Vanguard is a good rifle but its not true Weatherby

I wonder if the trigger comes with the $750 price tag. I doubt but if yes then I'm super interested.

Given Remington’s struggles, it’s not necessarily a bad idea if they execute it effectively.

I don’t hate it, but I’ll still buy a Mark V first.

I'll keep my 300wsm Vanguard but the action looks interesting.
I do want a Weatherby that says made in Sheridan, Wyoming though.

Looks good. I like the toolless bolt but, All that work around a two-lug vs the 3-lug. Fail.

I too have become a fan of the 3 lug actions.
Really wish mfgs would offer 20" threaded barrels in a touch heavier contours.

Nifty, I wish them luck with it.

This was my first thought too. Not that a model 700 clone is a bad thing. The model 700, when executed properly is a good rifle.

Yup!
Rem 700 footprint makes life easier, getting stocks.
If you want both, Curtis Customs actions. But that's only a rifle embryo.

Price is right, too. Under $1,500 for a real Weatherby made in Sheridan with those features will sell a lot of rifles. The Vanguard will fade away.

Also puts pressure on competition like Bergara and Tikka. Looks like a solid build. Interested to read the reviews once people start getting their hands on them.

I would like to see one in a wood or regular synthetic ( not plastic ) stock

Re: What's going to happen to your Vanguard - 06/06/23 08:26 PM
I don’t see the Vanguard fading away anytime soon. It is by far the company’s top seller. I recently purchased a Vanguard in 7mm-08 through the Weatherby custom shop—tungsten cerakote and fiberglass stock—and it was still significantly less than the lowest priced 307. So far it shoots .5” to .75” groups with whatever I feed it.

Run the action of a Mark V “made in Japan” and then run the action of a Mark V “made in USA”. and you will have the answer. IMHO the Japanese Mark V is smoother and not as sloppy.

If you want a nice Manners stock or etc, you pretty much gotta go with a Remington 700 footprint. It was a good move.

I doubt that either one would be any better than the other. I have a bunch of Howa rifles sold under various names and all of them shoot well. My oldest says Smith & Wesson on it and is pushing 40 years old if I had to guess.

Re: What's going to happen to your Vanguard - 02/10/24 12:23 AM
The Mark V is a proprietary action created by Roy Weatherby ( some say Kliengunther also had a big hand it it) and was the companies flagship rifle. That said, the company had to come out with a more economical line of rifles to keep it afloat as the Mark V was and is a luxury rifle.
The Vanguard/Howa action rifle is a great gun. We have 3 of them. But it’s not a Mark V.
Adam Weatherby is a much more progressive owner that his predecessors and imo it was the right time for a revamp and addition to the existing line up. As much as I don’t like it, they had to get more innovative to stay in business in modern times.

Id buy wyoming over an import, not a fan of howa, developing an American made remmy clone is a plus plus for WBY especially since they are offering a stand alone action for all the builders out there

That high gloss Monte Carlo stock is the shizz
I always like being able to identify a weatherby rifle at a quick glance by that high comb stock.

The Howa Vanguard is a great rifle, this new actions looks nice as well but I sure wish they made it in a 300wsm.
Might have to have a Wyoming made Weatherby now.
The 307 name is cool too, our area code. Good on Weatherby for naming it after Wyoming.

No way to know for sure but maybe they noticed how Montana gets a lot of attention as being "406 Country".
