Best DFW Shotgun Gunsmith? - 01/28/23 05:40 PM

Need some recommendations for a DFW shotgun gunsmith. I have a Remington 1187 Supermag that is giving me fits. It doesn’t want to cycle all the time. Field stripped and cleaned it but I don’t know what else to check on.

Yup… that would be my guess as well. Or at least a good thing to check first.

Needs a new main spring, I've been there.

You might try JG.

But seriously, HOW it’s failing to cycle will impact what direction to go.

Andrew Macfarland at Sealous gun and rifle is good.

Andrew Macfarland, while very skilled, really struggles with time management and organization. I don’t believe that he’s currently accepting gunsmithing work.

Yep, same story with him it sounds like. I thought he had hired an apprentice to help with workload.

That’s the spring in stock correct?

That's the one.
I have my dad's 20ga. 1100, and it had a mind of its own when cycling shells when shooting. I was told to change the spring, and that fixed it.

Yep, it's pretty straightforward. Been there with a Browning Gold and a Beretta 390. Fixed both and the guns worked like a charm afterword. There's probably a youtube video of it to show you how.

Y’all were right about the main spring. Replaced that and it’s working great.
