Henry 22LR

My son wants one for Christmas. Yes, no, alternatives?? I don't have any experience with them and don't know anyone that owns one. The Golden Boy or standard? I did read the Golden Boy is a little different to mount a scope on. Your thoughts. Thanks

They’re purty but they won’t shoot. Get him a 10/22.

Browning is about the only non-used option. Chiappa and Uberti both make a few but I don't know about quality or availability. Winchester 94-22 might be found used in good condition.

The yellow boy is much heavier due to the octagon barrel. Too heavy for a youth IMO. I have also owned the standard Henry 22. Both are accurate enough for plinking, Both functioned very well. The wood and finish on the yellow boy is fantastic. Wood and finish on the standard rifle is acceptable.
My most recent purchase was a T/Cr22 (10/22 clone). Very light. Handy. Accurate. It is my boy's favorite rifle.

I have the Henry Evil Roy in 22 mag and my 8 year old loves it more then my suppressed 10/22. I think it’s because he likes to work the lever. Anyways I love my Henry and it is a shooter

I have one in .22 mag golden boy it shoots great with iron sights.....

I have the regular 22, the mare’s leg 22 and, the 22 mag. Mine are fun to shoot and good for plinking. When I take kids shooting the regular 22 gets shot a lot. The mare’s leg gets shot some but the novelty wears off quickly. It is much easier to load for most kids than a magazine fed rifle, that is what I have observed. They are good fun guns. Put several hundred rounds down range yesterday with zero issues for a 8 & 9 year old that had never shot before. The other nice thing is it shoots any round you put in it and you do not have to worry about it jamming or cycling.

I have a regular model with round barrel and can't see how anyone could complain about it. The action is top notch smooth, with zero slop, and is dead on accurate out to about 50 yards. Its also well balanced and the ergonomics are great for folks of all ages.

I have 3 of them. They are nice rifles, shoot good enough, but not my choice for my sons guns. Tube fed mechanism puts little hands to close to the end of barrel and also doesnt allow for an easy visual check of unloaded gun. I’ve cycled a 22 lever 3-4 times one time and thought it was clear. Cycled one last final time to clear action and noticed a round chambering! Dont really know how that happened but it did, and Ive never forgotten about it. Instead I have Cricket and 10/22s for them. Single shot or mag removed and I can confidently clear the guns.

22 levers are probably one of the most fun guns out there. Try to find him a Marlin 39 though.

The trigger on my Henry 30-30 is the worst of any gun I own. Too heavy on the pull and noticeable creep.

Henry's Customer Service is outstanding. One day I'm going to ship it to them and see how well they can improve it.

Dan, I have a Henry Long Ranger that had the same problem.
It took 3 trips to the factory to get it fixed. An Email to the president got it done right on the last trip.
