6.5 PRC - 06/28/18 01:52 PM

Dang I keep coming back to this. I need to find a gunsmith who has actually BUILT some of these. Not looking for a first timer. Scott Weichel maybe???

Re: 6.5 PRC - 06/28/18 01:59 PM

Scott probably has. I know wade stuteville has chambered several. It's not a huge deal though. If they have chambered a 6.5 saum they've basically done a prc. There isn't much difference.

What are you thinking Buzz? I've loaded and shot some of the PRC. It's a great little hot rod round. I'll be building a 6.5 GAP 4S here shortly.

Horizon has built a few, I believe. Waiting for the 7 PRC.

Tell me more about this build. The 6.5SAUM has my attention. I want a hard hitting round in a short action (Savage)

It's simple really. A Tikka T3 rechambered with a custom 6.5mm Bartlein barrel pushing a 147 ELD-M about 3100-3200 fps! It's essentially a necked down 7 SAUM to 6.5mm. It holds about 65 grains of powder, and pushes a 140-147 grain at a good clip. It fits in a short action, but this will be on a Tikka, which are all long actions. I have a link HERE about it.

I used a 6.5 SAUM with the 135 Berger quite a bit this last fall and it’s a solid performer for sure.

I don't know why are so against the new BENCHMARK for long range precision short action bolt guns. You need to get educated and keep up with new technology.

https://www.outdoorhub.com/reviews/2018/01/04/first-look-field-test-flight-224-valkyrie/

Q: Is the 224 a true 1,000-yard round?

A: Yes, the 224 Valkyrie will be the new benchmark for people looking to shoot at longer ranges with their AR platform rifles, and precision short-action bolt guns alike. To say the 224 Valkyrie is fast, even at long ranges, is an understatement. Testing conducted by Federal Premium engineers confirms its high-speed capabilities. For example, the 224 Valkyrie 90-grain Gold Medal Sierra MatchKing leaves the muzzle at 2,700 fps; it maintains a blistering 1,950 fps pace at 500 yards, and 1,268 fps when crossing the 1,000-yard line. In fact, it remains supersonic (1,125 fps) out to 1,300 yards.

Scott, I think the 22-250, 22 Creedmoor, 22-243 or 224TTH with 1:7 twist barrels will shoot the 90gr 22 cal pills several hundred fps faster than the Valkyrie.

Is there a new Benchmark like the new Varget Buzz was telling us about?

New Varget, new Valkerie bolt gun, it's all old news to Buzz, he's moved on to something new.

Right.

Explained it before. Guess I have to again. It's cool in an AR-15. 6.5 Grendel will do more. In a bolt action, it could only sit on the sidelines and suck it's thumb, watching what a properly loaded .223 A.I. and a .22-250 can do. I have one of each.

As Kevin said, throw the .22 Creedmoor in, and the .224 Valkyrie isn't anything more than the new girl in school guys are panting over, that's a 7, while the 10 you've known for years is still sitting right there.

Re: 6.5 PRC - 07/01/18 12:05 AM

I’m trolling you buddy. Anything I want to do with a 22 centerfire can be done with 5.56 NATO that I already own in abundance. I have less than zero interest in a Valkyrie. I just think the hype machine is funny. cheers

Which model Sauer? I haven't had any luck finding any in stock anywhere.

Me either, they are telling me August.

Re: 6.5 PRC - 07/03/18 04:41 PM

Was looking at Sportsman Warehouse, from the Sauer Dealer list, and SW shows Sauer 6.5PRC's as a Listed Item, and available to back order to one of their locations the way I understand their website. Only problem is Slidell LA is the closest location...might make a good reason for weekend in New Awlins. If'n Shreveport was in the location list I'd probably put my name on one to HOLD for me. I had no idea these guys had as many stores and warehouses as they do...they are HUGE, mostly in the Rockies and further West but have expanded south east a little to Southhaven MS and eastern Tennessee & into the midwest, just none in Texas or Oklahoma though.

SW will not ship firearms to a FFL out of their store or Rgl warehouse system is what I've been told on other Forums for years.

None of the other Sauer dealer list locations online sites showed any PRC's in stock either couple days ago.

I'm pretty sure Barsness over on 24HCF was told by Sauer that these rifles wouldn't begin to show up until at least August 2018.
